Fishing Skill or Luck??

Post by qoutrage »

My neighbor FreddyG is having a bad streak.
He's not caught a keeper grouper in the last 3 or 4 trips, and he's getting to be pretty long faced about the whole thing. :(
His place on the boat is always the captain's spot, just behind the helm. Folks on both sides of the boat, and in front and back of him catch fish, but not him.. I mean he's caught a few shorts, and he did get a R/S a couple a trips ago, but this 'keeper thang' is down rite embarrassin for him.
He sez, he hasn't changed a thang, in his methods.
I think maybe, somebody's done put a hex on him, or somethin.
If so, wat kind of voodoo is it gonna take to break th hex?
I know that if ya got a wart, and you find and old chickin bone and throw it over you left shoulder and never look back, it'll go a way. :-D
So, thay might be somethin to it.
Questions is, how important is stuff like, favorite fishing hat or shirt, or rod to y'all?
Y'all thank tha stuff matters? Or is it just fate- luck o the draw, being in the right place at the right time? I mean, if ever thang else is equal..

Anyhow, th boy needs our help... :D

It is my experience that the Capn usually gets shafted on the catchin part. :smt013 I am also pretty superstitious. If this fella has bought a new fishin hat recently his old hat may have it out for him. It will also take some time to train the new hat how to fish. He can try putting a 1/0 circle hook in his left pocket and a shrimp in his right shoe but until the old hat gives up he's gonna be in bad shape.

Perhaps he has P. O.ed the FISH GODS :smt059 . In that case, he'll just have to ride it out until he comes back in favor with them. Could be days...could be years.

I've been in the same predicament and it lasted about 6 months :smt013 . All I can say is ...Sux for him!

Does he wash his fishin shirt between every trip? If so, he's washed all the good fish stinkey out of it. Tell freddy not to wash his shirt for 7 or 8 trips, and the bigguns'll bite again.
What was I supposed to do today?

Well, I'll pass this good info on to him, or better yet, tell him to read it for himself.
He's gettin pretty desperate, so I think that shirt or hat idea might be the ticket- Th' shirt thang particularly. 'Probably keep ever'body on the other side of the boat, if nothin else  .
On and I forgot to say, you got to rub that wart with the bone before throwin it over ya shoulder, elsewise it won't work.. :-D

To get rid of the voodoo you have to pour out a beverage for all the dead fish. This beverage MUST be whatever you drink while fishing ie beer, coke, gatorade, water, etc. Right before you are about to wet your line, crack open the beverage and pour overboard.

Could it be that he switched from his lucky rod and reel?

Ya'll are all giving this poor fella false hope...everyone knows when then happens you have to go find a seawitch and go through a dehaint'n ceremony. Now them seawitchs is hard to find, so sometime you have to substitute a house dehaint'n. Da capt. has to stand at his post while the witch sprinkles ashes and secret sauce all around the boat while making the dehaint chant. Course if you can't even find a house dehaint'n witch, you could get the John Wayne treatment from you buddies that I usually get. Its real simple. They simply tell you:

QUIT YOUR WHINING AND TIGHTEN YOUR LINE WHIMP! :smt021

That secret chant usually works just fine for me :smt044

It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time, but we all have our days...Tell him he was to reward the fish gods, you know throw back his next keeper gag :o  , maybe offer a beer to the fish god...All she ever gets back is short fish, trash fish and pee :o

I can get very superstitious, I always have a fishing hat when I fish. I have had hats that seemed to always catch fish and others that just don't seem to work as well. Of course the fish don't know what I am waring, But I do. So I guess it's what will raise your confidence level.
If we were all crazy, Wouldn't that make us all normal.
