Fished with a buddy Saturday. On the water at 7:00 and had our first double by 7:30:
We had two more doubles on this flat and then ran a little ways to search for trout. Found some fish laying in a trough between some shallow bars. Probably caught a couple dozen nice fish. At least 8 over twenty inches. Also got three reds up on the bars. Home by 1:30 to take wife and little girl to Dora's Pirate Adventure.
Sunday brought early morning fog/clouds and afternoon winds. Not fun for sight fishing. On the water at 6:30. Hit the bars that produced yesterday and got blanked. Wrong tide. Ran to a redfish flat and got this guy from a big school:
Saw a few more fish on this flat before leaving to fish some mud. Light was terrible and made it close to impossible to see fish over the dark bottom. I spooked lots of fish with nothing to show for it. Switched gears and moved to a sand flat to search some potholes. Eased up to a nice hole and pushed what I thought was a big red out. She settled down in an adjacent hole facing away and gave me a shot. Didn't want to bring the fly back into her face so I dropped a cast three feet left and forward of her. One twitch and she charged and ate:
25 inches but skinny at a little better than 5lbs. The business end:
Pushed down the remainder of the flat and ran into one more school of reds and a couple small pods. Got blown off the water at 2:00. Total for the day four reds and the trout.
