How do you guys fish mirror lures and or spoons?

Post by mojokoko »

I was wondering on how you guys fish mirrorlures. I have a few of them but would like to have some advise on the best way to throw them. When you throw a spoon do you let it sink for a few seconds before you start reeling it in at your desired speed or do you wait for it to hit the bottom.

First and formost, I fish my mirror lures very carefully. They make tacky ear rings

Most of the sinkers I work in a sink and jerk patter. The speed of the retrieve and jerk depends upon the depth and the temperature of the water. The warmer, the faster the retreive. I count down the first sink to conincide with depth, usually around 4 sec seconds for 4 foot of water. However, if I am not getting any hits, I vary rate until I find the magic speed and depth.

Spoons are much the same, except sometimes I put a skirt on a spoon and rip it across the surface.

Spoons I just cast and reel.

MirrOlures (TopDog series, 52M, 7M, Catch 2000, etc.) I use a twitch and pause, reeling enough to keep the slack out of the line.

Work a 7M slow like this and you can keep it on the surface.

Work a 52M fast like this and you can make it run a little shallower. Although, the rule of thumb I usually follow is if a 52M in getting down in the grass, it's time to switch to a Catch 2000 or 7M.

A steady retrieve with a 52M, 7M or Catch 2000 can also work.

I've been using the new 19MR and I use a really slow retrieve and work my speed up until I find the speed they are looking for. In deeper water i'll use the STTR and use a pretty steady double twitch in my retrieve.

spoons and catch 2000

I FISH THE SPOON LIKE A PLASTIC WORM, UP AND DOWN. WHEN YOU LIFT UP REALLY MAKE THE SPOON VIBRATE. IF THAT AINT WORKING JUST BRING IT IN STEADY AND SLOW.

MY FAVORITE IS THE CATCH 2000. I DONT CATCH AS MANY FISH WITH IT AS A GRUB BUT I DONT CATCH TO MANY SMALL ONES. SMALL QUICK JERKS WITH A PAUSE BETWEEN SEEMS TO WORK BEST.
