It’s not that I’ve not fished, but I haven’t been catching a lot.
Well, to the story…
Took the opportunity to take my wife, Deb with me to the flats around the lighthouse.
I like to fish a rising tide, really any tide, but especially a rising tide, it lets you go to places without risking staying overnight.
We had an interesting wind today, East in the morning and SW in the afternoon, I like to head into the wind so if a storm shows up we can get back to the LH. Water temp 70.5 to 71.8
We started to the rock garden; we went as far as Deb would let me, she’s a little nervous around the ROCKS ever since we hit Death Rock.
Fishing shrimp tipped jigs with CT start drifting, picked up a few shorts. Thought switching myself to top water might scare away some of the shorts, Got a large red headed Yozuri and start throwing with the wind.
Strangely, it made no difference the shorts kept hitting the topwater. So we dragged CT behind the boat and threw top waters with the wind. We caught about 15 trout between 13 1/2 to 15 ½ and only 1 keeper, still fun. Catching a 13 inch trout on a 6 inch plug is funny. I had one sky trying to get hooked up. We also had two double hook ups of trout. Almost everything hit the topwater, maybe 3 on the CT’s.

While we were fishing, Deb saw a big sting ray, when we were in about 3 ½ feet of water, and called out to me.
I immediately started to look around it to see what was tagging along. There was a least a 40 lb COBIA following, the largest cobia I have ever seen. His head was almost a foot wide. I tossed the plug at him and he turns on it,
But doesn’t take it, I grab another rod with a rig, still no luck. I took too long getting the trolling motor down and
Missed another chance. That was exciting.
Decided to let the wind take us shallow and we would try one of our favorite red fish creeks, but nothing was biting.

Got around the stake line and hoped for some macks, We tried dragging the CT and throwing the plugs, didn’t take long for the ladyfish to show up and we had a ball messing with those things, it’s been a long winter.
Deb grows tried of the ladyfish and asks about the macks, I tell her they hang with each other and you will know when they get here when you get cut off. I use 20 lb mono for leader in the fall and winter, switch to 40 at spring and change to wire leaders after a couple cut offs. I got a hit and reeled back a swivel, time to change.
Time was running out and we decided to troll back to the lighthouse with spoons, no takers.
A very nice day on the water with my wife, it was good to feel a good pull again.
