St. marks April 20

Post by rx fisher »

Got the chance to take a good buddy of mine and my wife out to the redhot flats.

Headed into the wind, went West a couple miles out of the lighthouse about 10am on a falling tide.

Started picking up trout right away and here and there, in 3-4 foot of water, clear as can be. We fished a couple different spots drifting and
caught some nice fat trout. Quite a few boats in that area for a Thursday.

We even had a couple double hook ups.

They were caught on CT with red head jigs and I used a top water.
After about an hour and a half, with a few dinners in the box (6 trout), we decide to go and East and deeper to fight the toothy types.

As soon as we anchored up a big mack skys not 10 feet from the boat, a good sign.

We start catching ladyfish right off, I'm hoping to give my buddy some great catching action. Soon he pulls in the first mack and the fun is almost not stop for better than an hour, My wife then hooks into a very
nice 25inch mack.

We continue to catch a good mess of fish on everything, they sure could tear up some tackle.
My wife yells and her line is flying of the rod, I know the rod is tight because she just caught the big mack, but this thing is not slowing down
I had the anchor down and too many rods out to go follow, and soon the
line is gone. Man, I would have like to see that, 150 yards of line in about a minute. Still lots of fun.
Another great day on the water with a good buddy and my wife.

When you went East to the deeper water, how deep were you fishing?
