St Marks - 4/25

Post by Reel Slow »

When a man's boat is down, he finds out who his true friends are. Luckily, I was able to bribe one to take me  . Any way, we left out of the LH early to explore some new shallow flats just off creek mouths. Working in 8-14" of water on the rise, we landed 8 nice trout 18-20" in quick succession once the water began to move a little. My buddy makes a cast and his line makes that awful sound, phffffft on the cast. Of course a 28" red nails his zara but, his phfffft is stuck at the rod tip. So, when I see this big red, I predict "your screwed". Somehow, we managed to free line that bugger to the boat!

This created a major need in me to find some more reds, we popped over to a few honey holes and landed 7 reds to 25" and a 22" trout. The trout liked slow topwater (Zara's, skitters, and suspenders, and all fought like it heck today).

Saw a nice gator cruising the flats, one of the largest I've seen in N. Florida. His body was like a VW. Must have been munching blue crabs!

Back to the hill at 3. I'm beginning to like not having to wash a boat too.

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

Much better than what I was doing. Only thing worse than that sound is when you make the perfect cast, to the perfect hole and you get a treble hook wrapped on the line.

I hate when other folks have time to fish during the week, and I don't.
What was I supposed to do today?
