April 30th Report

Post by Charles »

So, Billy Miller, Apalach, my son Yuta and I met for breakfast at Savannah's. After which, Apalach, Yuta and proceded on down to Wakulla Beach.

Expecting high winds and a small craft advisory I didn't take a canoe. Yuta and I walked in to West Goose Creek. Apalach launched his kayak saying he would meet us around there....and we never saw him again. :smt017
Hopefully he got on some fish on the way and just didn't make it that far.

Yuta and I pulled a big, fat zilch on the first bar where we stopped. Fishing topwaters and a 7M MirrOlure.

The next bar we stopped on we picked up a red. Looked on the low end of the slot, but we decided to release it rather than measure. Figured we didn't want just one, and if we got into more we could probably catch a better one. Got two more strikes on that bar, that we missed, and decided to head on up to the next point.

Got to the point just before the tide started to flow good on the rise and found somebody had been there ahead of us. They'd dumped their bait bucket when they left. Dead mud minnows everywhere. Slow here, too. We threw a Skitter Walk and a Sammy, then a 52M and a Catch 2000. The weather cleared about 11:30, clouds blew off to the east, sun came out and warmed things up, the east wind shifted to out of the southeast, we caught two undersize trout over the next hour and missed a few strikes. A pair of seagulls mating on the next bar make a lot of noise. About 12:20 we decided to head for the house and see what Mama had ready for lunch. :lick:

Walking out we spooked a 'gator off the bank a couple hundred yards from where we had been fishing.

All in all, a great day. Thanks for the trip, Apalach. :D
