Well if ya look at the tides for today, there was no water movement. And, NOAA mised again, sorta. Got a late start and launched at 0800 this morning. There was a 5 mph breese out of the west. Went to my "can always count on 1 red" hole. Nobody home. Continued on my merry way. Used the new poling platform, and poled about a mile of shoreline. I found a school of about 8 large reds in a little cove. Positioned the boat and staked it out. Took a look and they're still there. Thought about presentation. Sent a bait past the school. They didn't move. OK, I'll work the bait back through them and one of them will eat it.Worked the bait to within 15 feet of the school and every one of them turned and left the country.
That was the story for the day. The fish weren't feeding. Aside from that school, I saw maybe 5 other reds all day.
I did hit one area, while looking for reds, that was holding good trout. First one on was probably over 18". Half way back to the boat it turned the bait loose. Had that happen 4 times before finalliy landing the first fish. 19". Managed to land one more at 20" before they moved on.
Then, around 10:30, the wind truned from west to south, and kicked up to a steady 20 mph. So much for poling. Tried to fish more shore line with the trolling motor. The south wind was just too much to fight.
Moved out to deeper water and started drifting. Caught about 15 short trout. At 1600 I had seen all the wind I wanted. Eased my way back to the lighthouse and loaded at 1700.
High tide is at 7:06 PM, this evening. Isuspect, if the wind lays down, you could tear um up between 7:30 and dark.
