Pinfish vs. "pinfish" with a spot at the base of t

Has anyone noted one of these to be better/inferior to the other in terms of catching bottom fish?

You're talking about what we have always called a Virginia Spot or possibly a Sailors Choice. They are different from a pinfish.

pinfish are better bait 4 sure.

I like em all. :-D Usually the Sailors Choice runs bigger and makes a great Amberjack bait. Either one dropped in front of a hungry grouper will produce.

Those Sailors' Choice are not nearly as hearty as regular ole pinfish...
when cutting strips they seem to work OK.

I've seemed to have better luck with the "unspotted" ones. I don't know why, maybe they taste better.
