Anyone have any opinion of a GPS with an internal vs.
external antena. Am thinking of upgrading the grayscale model for a color with built in charts, specifically the Garmin 198c. I have an external antena already, but could use this space for a drink holder in the console.

Internal Antenna
Talked with Lowrance factory rep about this. He said the internal antenna was just as good as external antenna if it is not installed under anything that will shield it....such as a T-Top.
Internal works fine for me, but your needs may be different than mine. If you had a boat like this, you would most likely prefer an external antenna for your GPS, as well as a radar system.

No this is not my boat....... But it is one I would like to own one day.

Well dang, I checked with Garmin and they recommended external unit with a T-top. I ordered my new one with an external and it came with the internal one and I'm sending it back to get the external unit, because I didn't think they worked under the T.dstockwell wrote:Internal works just fine under a T-top, no problems at all.
