Nice trip. We found a few trout over the weekend but mostly found sharks and sailcats. Water was hot!

Re: Louisiana advice & opinions
We fish out of Buras the week of Mother's day every year for the last decade. Had probably our best trip ever this year. We always fish with Captain Patrick Dickinson of Dixie Outfitters. You can check out our dueling 40" bull reds on his facebook page. You don't have to have a guide, but to me it ...

April 6 and 7th
Went fishing this weekend and with the wind and the low water it was tough. We caught mostly short trout on a variety of gulp and soft plastics but managed five legal fish to 19" on Saturday with a bonus spanish. Sunday was nothing but shorts and a short spanish. Water was 66 degrees and tannin ...

Re: St Marks 12/31
My neighbor and I fished 12/30 and caught 1 trout despite hitting multiple spots and throwing multiple baits, With the negative low tides, we did not fish until about 1:30 pm on 12/31 and were not sure where to go or what to do. We went back to the same place we caught the lone trout the day before ...

Re: How to catch bait from a dock?
Now is not a good time to judge your bait population. At the end of March, bait your trap overnight (full high/low tide cycle) with shrimp heads. If you do not catch them with that, you need to bait fish somewhere else.

Re: Recommend rod and reel for pompano fishing on surf and p
From the shore, 8 foot rod medium to medium light with a 30 series reel. I also recommend going with the 15# to 20# braid over mono.

Re: Engine repair?
I did not try Porter's, but Shields and Parkway were both well over a month out before I could drop off my boat for repair when I called in May. I suspect it is worse since then. I have learned a few new skills. Good luck.

Re: Venice La. trip advice
We fish every year in Buras in the spring and do the blast and cast during duck season. I cannot say enough good things about Captain Patrick Dickinson (Dixie Outfitters) 504-329-2224. Fishes out of a 25 foot blackjack. Great boat and great guy. We catch a lot of fish and he is super with kids and ...

Re: Memorial Day Trip - Making Ontiltttttt's Dreams Come Tru
Nice report and well done on the fish. We got our 1st tripletail last year and were pretty proud of ourselves. We caught a mixture of fish this weekend, but were unable to call our shots like Ontilt. The only exception being in the 7-year-old who got a new fishing rod and proceeded to wear the grown ...

Re: Shell Point
There are no fish there ever. Never even heard of a fish being caught there. Seriously, they used to hold kayak fishing classes on the beach at Shell Point and then take the class out to fish the nearby oyster bars. There are fish there. Can be a lot of boat traffic on the weekends so you will want ...

Re: Favorite Fish to Eat
Broiled flounder. Redfish on the halfshell. Any fresh filet soaked in Louisiana hot sauce, rolled in seasoned corn meal, and fried in peanut oil. Hard to guess how many bluegill the current three generations of my family have eaten that way.

The good news is I finally have my boat and new trailer back. The bad news is the wind was really blowing. I fished the end of the morning rise with my buddy and his wife. We were optimistic starting out having heard a few good reports locally. Too rough to effectively fish our first spot. Second ...

Re: Well, that sucked.
I did not fish this weekend, but the week before I could not stand up in my boat in more than 4 feet of water. This weekend, we were on a pontoon boat on Lake Oconee in the whitecaps and took a beating. East wind is never good, and double digit east winds usually means finding something else to do.
