Yes, two anchors is to attempt to keep the boat from swinging.
Why do you recommend a claw anchor over a grapnel anchor? And, when you say 2.2 pounds, do you mean for calm water only, or would that be heavy enough to deal with the winds and currents I'm likely to run into?
I've considered pole/pin ...

Question about appropriate anchor weight
Hi, everyone,
This is actually a question pertaining to canoes, but the kayak forum seemed the most appropriate of all the places here to ask it.
I'm outfitting my canoe to make it better for fishing. I'm going to put in two anchors, bow and stern. I'd like to know about what size anchors you ...

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
the Pinhook is not what most would consider navigable until it reaches the bridge on the main east/west Refuge road (105) unless you consider crawling/slithering thru knee/waist deep mud as being navigable.
You mean the bridge over the Florida Trail? So, likely the only two ways to get a boat ...

Property appraisers' maps are not guaranteed, but are usually very accurate.hookedonred wrote:Is there any source out there that provides a map of where those boundaries(DEP Conservation land) extend to?

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
This is accurate, but I think a $25 WMA permit will get you into the Aucilla SGA, formerly the Pinhook still hunt area
I'm pretty confused about the Aucilla SGA. The FWC website shows it as 50,471 acres, with a map that is exactly the same as the 50,471 acre Aucilla WMA.

Re: Taking my daughter in a coulple of weeks
As someone else who fishes from a canoe, thanks for these tips.
I have a question, though. I imagine that, by the time the weather gets hot, there won't be as many fish in Levy/Dickerson Bays or in the East River. The original poster was specifically asking for information about a couple of weeks ...

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
I've hiked to the Pinhook from the lighthouse side. It was about a seven mile haul, one way. At the time (last year, about mid-March), it sure didn't look fishy when I got there. The water was clear as glass, and I saw nothing near the bridge that looked like fish activity. It was probably a time of ...

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
You make a good point. Heck, even if the fishing is terrible, you can say you waded to somewhere no one else fishes, and you saw things most people never see.
On the other hand, there will be an even stronger low tide in two weeks. And, if the weather is near its historical averages, it'll be ...

Re: Anybody familiar with Snipe Island?
GaryDroze — I can't tell you about the amount of water in the creeks. But I can tell you that Snipe Island Grade runs through land owned by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The land between the end of the road and the creeks/islands you're talking about is part of the Big Bend ...

Re: Any Tallahassee Bass Anglers here?
You could try posting in the "Need a Crew? Need a Ride?" forum. I know, it seems to get so little traffic that it's pretty much not in use. But it is there for just this sort of request.

Re: Any Tallahassee Bass Anglers here?
That is a good point. I went with canoe instead of kayak because I take my kid out. But, with a kayak, you can get to most of the same places you can in a jonboat. Plus, you can get into backwaters larger boats can't reach, and lakes that are hand launch only or have restrictions on motors. It's a ...

Re: Any Tallahassee Bass Anglers here?
I fish for bass (or anything else, really).
The good news is, I have a 17 foot boat, and I am looking for someone to go out with me. And I don't even need you to chip in for gas.
… the bad news is, that's because it's a canoe.
Probably not what you were looking for.

Lower Lake Lafayette?
Anyone here fish Lower Lake Lafayette? Can you tell me if there are any fish worth catching in there, and what kind?

Re: Boat registration question
With any luck, I'll found out that the trailer is registered in Mississippi, and therefore already has an official weight.

Re: Boat registration question
Well, it at least gave me some things to Google.
From what I can tell (and I'll check with the county tax collector's office tomorrow), boats in Mississippi are not titled. So I need a copy of his registration and a bill of sale. Not too bad, assuming he's registered the boat. I can ask tomorrow ...
