Does anyone use Salt-Away? You mix a few ounces of this per gallon in a bucket of freshwater. Guy at Randy Peart's seminar said he dips all his plugs in a solution of this right after use. Keeps the stuff in a Tupperware container on his boat so it doesn't get forgotten. Result: no more rusty hooks....

NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is the main agency that does research in this area, not the Navy. The Navy is, of course, interested but has never been a big player in this to my knowledge. Lots of pretty sophisticated wave models out there with oceanographic research world-wi...

Good idea about the laptop-there will be plenty of room on the tables. But I don't know what the situation is with electrical outlets. The class lasted almost 3 hours, so that might be pushing your battery. Call Scott at Jerrys to check on this (and take an extension cord!). You might want to get th...

Yep--Ziplocs is good! I have a Sony DSC-T1 that is a fantastic little camera with an incredible macro capability that focuses down to less than a cm away. This is one of the main reasons I got it, but unfortunately it does not take kindly to getting wet, even though it does have an internally-focusi...

Yeah Chalk, you've got some of my favs on your list, as well as those of Randy Peart. For spring fishing Randy is especially big on chartreuse lead-heads along with Bass/Salt Water Assassin tails, especially anything pearly like the crystal minnow or sea shad. If the water is dark and dirty, then he...

Make your own lockable roof rack rodholder
If you prefer not to carry your rigged rods inside your vehicle with the occasional loose topwater and two sets of treble hooks drifting around your head, you may wish to consider an external rodholder attached to your vehicle’s roof rack. I used a 6-place Berkley rodholder and bolted this to my T...

Overview: Randy Peart's Seminar
Attended Captain Randy's seminar last night at Jerrys. Scott really had the room set up nicely with rented folding chairs and long tables in front of each seat so it was easy to take notes and balance your coffee or soda. I have to say that most in attendance were pretty experienced anglers, but eve...

Digital Cameras for Yakfishers
One of the problems everyone encounters while fishing, is "I sure wish I had my camera", or "I need to get a camera that doesn’t mind getting wet". This is especially true for yak-fisherfolk and other outdoor types. Turns out there is a great Web site by Steve’s Digicams that...

Hey Terri, Good to hear from you. I have been reading the inshore fishing reports and they have not been too encouraging about this time of year. However, if one really knows the area and doesn't mind a little cold weather, there are trout hanging out in some of the deeper holes in our local creeks ...

Recent Pubs Dealing with Kayaks and Kayak Fishing
I know a lot of you have probably seen either or both of these magazines, but if you haven’t, or if you have been thinking about getting into kayak fishing, both of these issues are top notch. 1. The first magazine is Shallow Water Angler, the December/January 2005 issue. Especially check out page...
