Pretty Good Weekend

Two "big days" Friday and Sunday. Friday was grouper fishing with several friends offshore on my buddy's Parker. The grouper and AJs did not cooperate but I managed to bring what appeared to be about a 6 foot bullshark to the boat. We did not invite him in. The guys estimated over 100 pounds. No ...

Wow! The last time I caught a keeper red from my kayak I was towed through an oyster bar....they must have been skiing.

Had a very similar experience Sunday the 17th. Went to all the right places, trolled with all the right lures but unfortunately the grouper did not get the memo. But it was an absolutely beautiful day on the water. Dolphins escorted us out of the river and sea turtles popped up their heads offshore ...

The fish are safe today but the turkeys look nervous (of course when I go out the fish are still safe :)). Safe and happy Thanksgiving to all.

When you read accounts of sailors in the 1800s mistaking manatees for mermaids....you know they had been on a ship full of stinking shipmates too long!

I had a bluefish on a spoon several weeks ago and something big and dark came and grabbed it like a fingerling mullet. Never saw anything but a dark fast shadow and assumed it was a shark...you experience tends to make me think it was. Couple weeks later what looked like a blackfin jumped out of the ...

The Scouts are way cool. We sold our J-16 to buy our Cape Horn 17 and as much as we love the "big" boat, that J-16 sure loved the skinny water. Wish I had both. Some good friends just bought a Scout and cannot say enough good things about it. Congratulations!

Scott at Jerry's knew what I was talking about. They are called diamond jigs. He ordered some for me. The are small, silvery and have a mackerel attracting wobble and a single hook. They do catch the spanish.

As usual the regulars have given you sage advice. I have both Shimano and Okuma reels and both are excellent although I like the solid feel of the Okuma a bit more than the Shimano. My wife and I use both and they have done very well. Ugly Sticks are a good choice for a rod and reasonably priced (I ...

I still can't find those small jigs although I bet those shad darts would work as well as the spoons. The lures I am thinking about came 3 to a package and were short thin and kind of an elongated diamond shape. We use to use them off the piers in Daytona and when I was in Rockport Maine I used them ...

Not So Hungry Mackeral

My wife and I left the Lighthouse ramp about 9:00 a.m. Sunday and found ourselves surrounded by bait all morning along with frequent visits from fairly large schools of spanish mackeral (with ladyfish as well). We caught a few but not nearly as many as you would think considering the regular ...

I live in Killearn Lakes and had a similar problem when a dog that looked just like my yellow lab was going through folks yards. I was called and told he was in their yard "right now." I looked down at my dog, in our house next to me, and realized what was going on. When I walked over with my guy on ...
