St. Marks 5/17

Linda's brother, Larry, was visiting for a week while I was on a business trip to Michigan. I got back on Wednesday and we went out on the flats on Thursday. Larry had brought his boat from Orlando and he had fished the area around the St. Marks River and the East and West Flats before. I decided to ...

St. Marks Sunday 3/25/07

We set out from Shell Island Fish Camp at about 8:00 and headed east past Grey Mare. We worked in close to shore and were greeted with some beautiful scenery and lots of rocks. This was our first time in this close to shore (~50 yards) in this area and it was an education. Saw some trout but they ...

What kinda plane do you have? Did you build it?[/quote]

Hi Chalk,

It is a 1971 Cessna 182 N. I've thought about building a plane over the years, but heck, I can't even finish the R/C models I'm working on. So, Linda says if you can't finish a model we'd better go fishin'. And the next thing I ...

Linda and I will plan on coming to the Social, but we won't be able to get there until about 1:00. I'll be flying kids in Bainbridge as part of the Experimental Aircrafft Association's Young Eagles program until about noon.

Following some of the suggestions received here:

Put a Sempo swivel on a split ring attached to a gold gator spoon and no more line twist problems with the mono!

Also put a spoon on another rig using Power Pro and - no line twist problems.

All in all, a much better experience than the last ...

St. Marks 6/26/05

We put in at Shell Island around 7:30 - Jeff, Linda, and neighbor Donnie. Neither Shell Island nor Shields had any shrimp, so it was artificials all the way. We started after Reds around the oyster bars near the lighthouse, tossing gold spoons. Had one hook-up, but lost it. Then SUCCESS! Jeff ...

For quick reference I use a small laminated chart (3"x6") which has color pictures and the Florida regulations for size and number (as of 2002). I have two - one I got at Kevin's Sporting Goods and the other at the Shell Island Fish Camp in St. Marks. I have another laminated one which is by ...

line twist

When targeting redfish I like to use a gold spoon (Johnson or gator). I'm using them on a spinning outfit with 10 lb monofilament. All too often I end up with a real bird's nest due to line twist. I have tried using a barrel swivel, but I still get line twist. My brother and cousin - who catch a lot ...

Sailfish 186

We went up the tidal creek at nearly high tide - plenty of water. We used a trolling motor to keep us near the center of the channel. I saw a hole on the Garmin and tossed out a shrimp on a circle hook and the fight was on! The depth at the center of the channel was running around 5-6 feet and the ...

Grey Mare 6/18/05

We put in at Shell Island and went east to Grey Mare. We worked our way up one of the tidal creeks and got a keeper trout and my first sheepshead. Both were caught on my ultralight spinning "lucky pole" using a shrimp under a Flats Equalizer. We then tried the flats out near Peter's Rock and got a ...
