I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE MERCURY, IT WAS A 78 MODEL AND I BELIEVE TURNED OUT 75 H.P. , IT WOULD RUN LIKE A SCALDED DOG, BUT DO NOT EVER TURN IT OFF, IT WOULD NOT START UNTILL THE ENGINE HAD COOLED DOWN COMPLETELY. ALL OF THE OMC ENGINES I HAVE OWNED , AND I HAVE OWNED MANY, ALLWAYS RAN GREAT. THE 33 THAT I HAVE IS A 1949 YEAR MODEL AND IT PROBABLY HAS 3-4,000 HOURS ON IT, SHE IS GETTING TIRED LIKE ME JUST WORE OUT, STILL RUNS GREAT BUT HAS A SLIGHT ROD KNOCK ON THE BOTTOM PISTON, I HARDLY USE HER ANYMORE AND I AM TOO OLD TO REBUILD ANOTHER ENGINE. I JUST LIKE TO GO OUT TO THE SHOP AND LOOK AT HER EVERY NOW AND THEN. MANY GREAT MEMORIES WITH THAT BOAT. THE BOAT IS A LAP STRAKE LARSON ALSO 1949.

OX66 200 Yammy - '04. I decided to purchase this motor because it was on the back of the boat I wanted. To date the motor has been a non-issue. I describe it as a non-issue because it just sits back there and does everything it asked to do. I have owned motors that were too much a part of my life. Not this one.

O yea, there is also a 25 Merc on the back of the small fish-catching boat.
No issues there either... except smoke.

I've got an Evinrude 112 SPL on my 19' Wellcraft. A little hard starting, but once it's going it runs great. I thought I'd need more horsepower but I had me, my wife and my buddy in it and it worked out fine. Hope it lasts for a little while, it came with the boat and I can't afford another motor for a while
. By the way, anyone know any tricks for starting the OMC motors any easier?

Powerplant
I have a 90Merc 2stroke mounted on a 6" hyd. jackplate on my 18' Sundance. This is the maximum hp for this model. I had experienced a porpoising problem which I corrected with a TH Marine hydrofoil. My boat will plane off in less than 3 seconds (yes I used a stopwatch) and tops out at 41mph. Yes it's a little loud and smokes a bit but the performance is outstanding and the motor has been bullet proof so far.

2007 150 Optimax. I thought I wanted the Verado but they liked it more than I wanted it. Runs great, very quiet and starts when you turn the key.

Dad's got a 90 Yammy 2 stroke runs fine just a little cold natured, the devil to keep running if it stes up a couple of weeks.
