SeaNile CSMarine and bigshark88 St. Marks Offshore 8/9

Post by Atticus »

Okay I can't hardly type because I cut myself so if my fellow anglers want to augment this report please do so. I just want to get the pics up here real quick.

It was the three forum members and SeaNile's son Rick and CSMarine's buddy Don.

We went out at around 7:10AM and found SeaNile's pinfish trap but it only had 3 pinfish in it. So we caught up some more with some fishbites and some cut squid. We were using SeaNile's homemade livewell which worked pretty good.

Then we went out to spot #1 about 15 miles out past the last St. Marks channel marker IIRC. We trolled it and got one short gag and then another hit but the fish came off before we saw it. Both the hits were on chart./blk. tiger striped stretch 25s.

Then we tried out luck at bottom fishing which resulted in about 100 shorts. We were trolling from spot to spot with no luck.

Eventually I gave in and said to myself: "Self- If the gags are not big enough to keep or aren't biting, I need to get some grunts/triggers home to throw in the grease." So I started catching grunts and brought up a whole lot of them.

Then CSMarine started to catch grunts as well and he was slaying them, bring in a grunt on every drop.

Then Don (who was being real quiet up in the bow) brings in a 24 inch gag.

But that was the last grouper for the trip and we caught up a whole bunch of grunts (I caught a trigger as well).

It was a GREAT trip and I had some wonderful fried fish last night. I met these two forum members and they were great guys. We all had a blast.

I sliced into my finger pretty good with the fillet knife though (last night).

Took these pics on the way in:

Also, someone sent out a MAYDAY call on Ch. 16 but then didn't respond to repeated CG hails. The CG guy determined it was a hoax. We heard the MAYDAY so maybe they were close to us??? CG guy said it was a juvenile and a hoax though. Wierd

The day was a totally awesome day!! :D Fish weren't biting worth chit!! The sky's were alittle overcast first off in the morning. The seas were manageable with 2-4ft beautiful rolling swells, the boat did awesome, and if the freakin' fish would have been biting, :x we'd have caught some!!

Although we caught a chit load of shorts. Seems like the mr. big groupa just packed up and left the grunt to do some house cleaning!!

We hit about 10 #'s from 15-20 miles out, but them hummers didn't want to come up! :x We trolled, we bottom fished, and trolled and bottom fished. We were getting over structure, and I know there's fish there, but it was one of those days.

Sure was hopin' that these guys could have caught some fish. It's rare I don't bring home a mess a groupa. We did some solid diggin' too...... Go figure  seriously thinking about taking the dive gear along and actually goin' down there to see :o what the problem is!! freakin fish........ :x

CSMARINE as expected turned out to be as much of a fishin' machine, as he was a marine. With his tactics, we were able to take out most of the pinfish without to much effort. They didn't have a chance. Then CS with his brute strength was able to wrestle a pilot to the deck and show him who was boss. The guy ended up with a bloody mouth. Mr. Pilot should've know better to mess with a Marine. CS was on him like white on rice.

Sure glad bigshark88 decided to start pullin' in the grunt! The coolers were empty, and this boat had to bring in fish, or face some serious consequences on the home front!! I normally don't give grunt a second look, but these guys said that grunt were pretty decent. After we caught about 60 or 70 grunt, we decided to head to 24 and bottom fish the barge. No luck there either. bigshark88 caught an old cable from the barge, but that was it.

Other than the one keeper CS's friend caught. It was the only Mr. Grouper we had as a guest, and he wasn't checking out.

We fished it long and hard...... Cut bait, live bait, stretches, nothing brought the sought after limits we were looking for.........Although we didn't bring home the grouper, it was an awesome time!! I enjoyed every minute of the 14 hour day. Getting out on the open water, drinkin' a cold  looking for mr. grouper. I kept the guys out as long a I could, but when bigshark88 said I said I was out of  I decided that it was time to head back in. What a day!!

Oh by the way, the grunt was a hit at the house!! ....... If I can't catch the grouper next time, I'll definately be loading up on the little snorters.

You guys are welcome to fish with me anytime. I had a great time. It's definately more fun when you have friends to share with. Thanks for coming along!!! :D

I don't know when the next trip will be, but it'll probably be dependant on whether or not I can find willing participants.

Maybe nitrofish and bring some decent numbers along...... :D

At least you guys were out there. Even though the grouper did not cooperate, sounds like a fine time.

It was totally great...... ...... My new friends just made the whole day.... ...... These guys are die hard and can take the heat when the pressure is on.

Loved every minute of the time on the water. I can't wait to meet other forum members and form some life long friends and co-fishermen. Anytime someone wants to come along............. All ya gotta do is pipe up..

What really made my day was getting home and seeing that thunderstorms prevailed for the day, and we were out over open water and no rain in sight........... cool, ay? :D

Was not I.......... I did put out a call yesterday for another friend, Seabreeze, at around 3:15 pm. Went out to the sand bar for some wading relaxation and to scrub down the sides of the boat.

Awesome afternoon with the radidio, splash fights, and a cold one. Doesn't get any better. Love that water......

Not much I can add to two good reports already. I let the crew down by not chumming. Had a great time. Made some new friends. Brought home a pile of grunts to my bride. (didn't think she was ever going to get them thangs cleaned) Captain SeaNile worried so much about us having a good time, that he spent more time setting us up than he did fishing. Lots of shorts caught, that was a blast for me. Both reports forgot to mention the big Cobia we saw hanging out under the boat. Even he didn't hang arond long. SeaNile's boat was a dream to fish off from. I'm not used to fishing from the shade. I'm ready to go back today. Hope Seanile keeps me on his list. 8)

Don't forget I caught dozen of them snorters. I did do "some fishing".... I had fun watching you guys though. Actually wore me out the way you guys moved around.... I slept a solid 12 hrs. after that trip.

Man, I sure had a blast!! :D  Hope ya want to come back. Let me know your weekend schedules and availability. That goes for Sgt. Major, and bigshark88 too.............. Nitrofish wants to come along and bring some groupa diggin' #'s. We should bring him along and catch all his fish, ay??
