Changing lower unit oil is not for just changing it. It's also to check to see if it's milky white which would indicate water and therefore you would avoid extensive and expensive repairs. Also check the bottom plugs magnet for any metal pieces.

Thanks Speedy! I didn't even know that the lower plug had a magnet. It looks like the previous owner was not into motor maintence or upkeep, its got some corrosion I need to take care of too. If I can keep it running for a couple of years I'm going to buy a new one (I've been eyeing the E-tecs).
