From a GA boy!

Post by Seachaser »

The problem is not the water, but politicians. They only plan after the fact. Atlanta and northward have known for the past century that they do not have enough water. They should have done like I did and drill a dang well! Purdue is a crook, and idiot. After all he bought a huge amount of "cheap" Florida land! LOL :D

Yall get ready. Water is going the way of the rest of our natural resources. In 20 years we will be talking about the good old days when we could get water outta the tap that was just a penny on the dollar. It'll probably be something like gas prices $1 or $3 a gallon. This is a time for everyone to think about their own water use. Not just Ga. Please turn the water off while brushing your teeth, and teach your kids to do the same, get a low flow toliet, when washing your vehical turn the water off while soaping it up. You can buy a shower head with a swich that turns the water off while you soap up, for those of yall that use soap. If you have to water your lawn get a sprinkler system that uses reclaimed water. I know we can all help in this situation instead of pointing fingers. Afine example using as little water as possible comes from my visits to Bermuda. They have no fresh water on the Island. They collect water from their roofs and store it in each home personally. Nothing like takeing a bath with the thought of Bird poop to wash you off, but hey it works. It'll only get worse. The politics won't solve it, only the american public can do that, and the answers will be everyone having to change their life style...a little. Don't not use water, just use it sparingly!! Ok off the soap box.
One of the greatest things in this life is to know yourself.

SHORTAGE OF WATER

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO PUT MY .02 IN ON THIS. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF WATER IN THIS COUNTRY. THERE IS AN OVER POPULATION OF PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY AND WE SHOULD STOP ANYONE FROM MIGRATING HERE, AND GET RID OF SEVERAL MILLION THAT HAVE DONE SO IN THE LAST 10 YEARS OR SO. IF WE DO NOT DO SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE, WE WILL HAVE TO DO WHAT CHINA DID SEVERAL YEARS BACK, LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN A COUPLE CAN HAVE , AND ABSOLUTLY NO MIGRATION OF PEOPLE INTO THE COUNTRY.

MudDucker wrote:Bottom line is that the corp is releasing more water than is coming in, thereby giving the downstream folks more water than they would have if there was a natural flow of water. That isn't right.

The stupid corp didn't even accurately measure its release until about 6 months ago, when some employee checked and the release gauges were bad wrong. Corp released 2 billion gallons too much.

The Corps is and always has been oriented towards engineering solutions to complex problems. They think structures first: dams, weirs, dredges. Throw in the "home town" politicians desire to bring back huge public projects to the district that employ thousands and you see where it leads. As they did in Florida with draining the Everglades, building the Cross-Florida Barge Canal and nowadays beach renourishment, the Corps will build it and then fix it later. Tends to keep them busy forever.

The water agreement between the three states is complicated, and everyone was supposed to give up something and gain something in the process. Florida is supposed to get a guaranteed amount of water during low water times and Georgia can send a lot south when they are flooding there. And, while the Atlanta politicians like to call this a "mussell" problem, south Georgia also needs the water, too, as does Alabama. IMO, Atlanta has brought this entirely upon itself, while making billions off of unplanned growth. I would bet that any future solutions will involve plenty of public money, and it will come from outside Atlanta, in large measure.

Agreed, but this time, it seems they haven't built enough structures to store water for Atlanta.

First off, God sends the excess water south, not Georgia. My understanding of the current agreement was that the flow south would not be less than what the natural flow would be.

The problem is a riparian waters right problem. Enough water is generated by God's rainfall in Georgia to support Atlanta and all of Georgia. Right now, enough water is not falling to support that and the downstream folks. Historically, all downstream folks sucked hind tit. That would be the case in this instance if Georgia had not accepted federal money for dams. The solution will be costly and since folks from outside the State of Georgia are now dictating where Georgia's water is used, money from outside should be applied to fix the problem.

By saying all of this, I am not in favor of the unchecked urban sprawl that is called Atlanta, but I do not favor anyone from outside of the State of Georgia telling us how our State should be should developed. I would be more for Georgia building damns above the feds and telling them to go where it is always hot. Not to be offensive, but anyone from Florida who gets on his high horse about Georgia development is a hypocrite in my opinion. Florida's unplanned growth sprawl is the worst in the nation.

Actually, most of South Georgia and north central Florida don't use any rivers for their water supply. We are all using one of the world's largest aquifers. I don't think Atlanta is gonna run a pipe down here :o
