Leave it alone. You can't make everybody happy.
I remember when Butch and I came into the money often. We averaged about $30 per tournament. Of course we only had 5-6 boats per tournament.
Once we had 2 boats in a tournament. That was because that day we decided to split up and fish separate boats hoping to get more boats in the tournament.
We were the only 2 boats to show up.

I felt RB deserved a real answer. The rest of the answer is....while fuel prices are increasing, I believe that is why the tournaments are increasing.snatch-n-reel wrote:Jt you should have just said PPPpppFFFfffTTTttt!RodBow wrote:Since the club is so big and rich and gas prices are going to cut into participation - I vote to lower the entry to $15.
Members are probably fishing less often overall...but are spending the extra $20 bucks to fish the tournaments because of the social/friendship atmosphere that is there.
I think he is wrong about the participation falling off. I believe it will continue to increase. Perhaps not every tournament...but overall it will increase because NFGFC members are having fun. And it only cost $20 bucks.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness was wrong.
Sixty-six happy people can't be wrong.
While I would love to win every time,..I am happy just to fish against and participate with the people there.
I hate to admit this...but I am actually embarrassed when I place in the money.
(No Eman...not embarrassed enough to give it back.)

So membership is up, tournament attendance is up, club sponsorship is up and somebody wants to change something
I would only like to see catch and release introduced into the events but that's not gonna happen.

Re: Should NFGFC tournaments have a entry fee and cash payouts?
If we have 25 boats fishing an event that is $500.00 that goes into the club. If there are no cash payouts at the monthly tournaments. Where does the cash go and how would it be spent on the club?Jumptrout51 wrote:A question of cash payouts was submitted by a NFGFC member. I am submitting the question to you.
Please do not vote unless you are a NFGFC member in good standing. ie dues paid currently.
Does the big fish pot still payout cash for throes who want to chip in. I assume that the Mystery fish would be unchanged?
I know there are costs to put on the cookout, but $500.00 is a lot of money to sit in the bank.
I am sure there was some idea on where and how to distribute the moneys back to the membership.

When did I say give it back? I said give it to me.Jumptrout51 wrote:(No Eman...not embarrassed enough to give it back.)
Tidedancer, there are currently cash payouts minus a small percentage that goes back to club for angler of the year, lady angler, junior angler prizes at the end of the year.

I'm confused. There is no money kept at tournaments. 100% of the money is paid back to the members. Big fish, bonus fish and all.Tidedancer wrote:If we have 25 boats fishing an event that is $500.00 that goes into the club. If there are no cash payouts at the monthly tournaments. P.S. If folks don't like the entry fees, why don't they just go fishing and meet us at Jerry's at 3:30? I don't think anyone would have a problem with that? Still get to socialize without the entry fee.

Exactly. There's nothing mandatory about getting in the tourneys.Eerman wrote:P.S. If folks don't like the entry fees, why don't they just go fishing and meet us at Jerry's at 3:30? I don't think anyone would have a problem with that? Still get to socialize without the entry fee.

Re: Should NFGFC tournaments have a entry fee and cash payouts?
66 people didn't seem to have a problem with entry fees.
I can shed some light on one of the main reasons this club was founded (since I was there).
Many people expressed an interest to fish tournaments however the only one in the area was the JBT Team Seatrout. The higher entry fees coupled with the fact that the tournaments were held on Sundays, not to mention the highly competitive nature of them turned many folks to look for an alternative.
Steve, Chuck and I started the club so that we could fish tournaments on Saturdays with our families and friends, not pay an arm and a leg and still have a spirit of competition.
Seems like that's what we've got. But, as a founding member of this club, if I for one second think the tournaments are becoming more about money than fun and camaraderie, we will change the format. No one is making the rent money at the tourneys. Most folks who place win back the gas money and entry fee.
