Keyton Beach vs. Econfina

I Have fished Keaton all my life! EZPZ!! There are just a hand full or spots to worry about WAYYY less that the Econfina. Rocks = Spring worrier (north) and dark island (south) with a few scattered here and there. There is one flat top rock some where around piney point Don't ask me how I know . But all in all great fishing both places!! I like to go north to catch trout plus to me there are less dangers that direction. Check it out its a beautiful place.

I fish mostly out of keaton simply because of the boat lift service provided at marina as my Honda Pilot does not handle slippery ramp well, especially during low tide. Also, Jerry and the other folks working at the marina there are great people and I feel that they will lend a hand should I run into any problems while out there.

I prefer to fish north of Keaton unless the water is very stained. Its not uncommon for me to run way past Spring Warrior if the fishing is slow - sometimes 15 or more miles to find the fish. Yes, I have seen many rocks that are barely sticking out of the water, not to mentioned the many oyster bars scattered around. Dont believe me, take a little exploration around the near shore during high tide with your trolling motor when its slick calm. Though I have hit "things" while running at Keaton but generally do feel safe as I do not run very close inshore. I generally stay around run 2-3 miles from shore regardless of the tides. It never ceased to amaze me seeing someone running on plane close to shore. I dont care how little your boat draft. Personally, I dont usually fish close to shore unless there's a west wind taking me in close. And if I do, I dont run on plane until I idle out to deeper water. Perhaps that's why I dont catch many redfish ..... then again, I dont care much for redfish.

Keaton beach is nice ,getting in and out easy, nice ramp and facilities.just like anywhere else you just have to find your best spot to fish. i put a friend from work on the numbers that we had and he did not catch much,i think its all in the style that you are accustomed to fishing as to where the best bite is.good luck and be safe

Thanks for the info guys, Breambuster obviously you are doing something right. We might try it next Saturday instead of Econfina. A change of scenery is always good anyway. We are comfortable at Ecky, but I would like to learn some new water. Thanks again.
