I don't really follow politics too much, but I have heard this over and over. Is there any truth to this, or is it speculation? Is there anywhere you can find facts on this issue? Thanks. (sorry to derail the original post)

The derail was mine.
As to facts, no, I haven't seen any.

Nah, he's not going to take your guns just the ammo. You can't have a national police force if everybody with a gun has ammo.

Bush is about the most incompetent person to ever hold the office. If Clinton would have went into Iraq and put this country into the situation we are in now, he would not have been president the whole term. In Dec. 98 he ordered bombing of military targets in Iraq because they would not let the inspectors in, He bombed them until they did. Clinton was critisized by the republican congress for doing so. Inspectors went in and done their job. I think Bush was the President when 911 occured, tell those families how he keep them safe. Bush's dad has become a Billionaire since his son was in office, Bush is leaving with a smile on his face because he has sold the good ole boy attitude to guys like us and made us like it. He has failed to regulate big bussiness, oil and banking etc, because it is the executive that enforses bills set by congress, he has said I take this Bill to mean this and done nothing, either incompetent or stupid, but your children will pay for his stupidity. The reason guys like him get in office is because of guns, abortion(HELLO, 22 YEARS OF Republican presidents, and still can get one. Family values, these folks are for big bussiness, getting it in the short run while running for office and telling folks how close to God they are. Where was Kenneth Star when we really needed him. All we are is 6 more trillion dollors in debt, like that less spending phylosophy by the way, Patriot act, government do what ever, and headed for depression, and you guys are worried about guns. You folks are great guys, I do not want to make anyone made but, think if Clinton had done what this President has done to our country.

Tennessee, if you read back through this thread you'll see that I said I've not been a fan of Bush's financial leadership, though I will forever be indebted to his national security efforts... so I approached this topic with an open and honest eye. And let me also disclose I voted ONE time (and one time only) for ol' Billy Boy, but got to say you must be smoking some good stuff tonight because, dear God, how can you bring up false preaching of family values and seeking wealth while you are attacking Bush/defending Slick Willy?

Quoting ol' Rev. Wright, have you forgot about Bill's "riding dirty"? And I'm not throwing around loose accusations, think the DNA was pretty conclusive on that one. And using the office to get rich... you need to check your facts on that one too, as the Clintons themselves just shared they've earned $109 million since leaving office in 2000 and I think you would be hard pressed to argue they've done it by the sweat of their brows (not to mention their penchant for stealing White House silverware, something I'm proud to say no one is claiming the Bush family to have done).

All this said, I care enough for this nation to pray Obama succeeds and I pray he doesn't fail. I'm NOT linking him with Clinton while saying this... I grew to hate Clinton and disrespect him BECAUSE of his lack of morals, personal desire for power, and extreme greed. And lest anyone think I'm linking Clinton and Obama, I don't sense these failings with Obama as much as just a weak respect for capitalism and a worrisome like for socialistic/welfare vote-buying efforts. Hope he proves me wrong. As for Bush, think you might need to seek some anger management and be careful to judge too harshly lest you personally know the man. He may not have made choices you agree with but I think you're going to find even most people who vehemently dislike him think that HE THOUGHT he was doing what he believed morally right, again something I don't think Bill ever lost too much sleep over.

Actually the Clintons have made more money than that Since leaving office, he has made well over 200 million, why because he has something to say that is relavent, good luck with the Bush's on that one, Hope they do not print many of Laura's books. Deep respect for capitalism, that has been dead since the Great Depression, Bill screwed a few women while Bush did it to the whole nation and let the banking industry and the oil comanies have their turn. As far as anger management dang right I am mad and do not need anyone to manage it for me. All I know is Clinton did not screw me. Morals, I am President and I am going to do what ever no matter how much it hurts the nation, very moral and very patriotic, vetoing helth care for children, good one there. Yes I vehemently dislike him as President, but would still hunt or fish with him.

Tennessee, easy now. I get it but I don't suggest BBF, off topic or not, as a productive forum
for a rational consideration of various political perspectives.

Not sure where to start on this one, but here goes. As for those that still subscribe to the idea that Bush mislead the country and deceptively lead us into war with Iraq (WMD), please read this article about Clinton's reasoning for bombing their asses too......

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- From the Oval Office, President Clinton told the nation Wednesday evening why he ordered new military strikes against Iraq.

The president said Iraq's refusal to cooperate with U.N. weapons inspectors presented a threat to the entire world.

"Saddam (Hussein) must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons," Clinton said.

Operation Desert Fox, a strong, sustained series of attacks, will be carried out over several days by U.S. and British forces, Clinton said.

"Earlier today I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces," Clinton said.

"Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors," said Clinton.

Clinton also stated that, while other countries also had weapons of mass destruction, Hussein is in a different category because he has used such weapons against his own people and against his neighbors.

The Iraqi leader was given a final warning six weeks ago, Clinton said, when Baghdad promised to cooperate with U.N. inspectors at the last minute just as U.S. warplanes were headed its way.

"Along with Prime Minister (Tony) Blair of Great Britain, I made it equally clear that if Saddam failed to cooperate fully we would be prepared to act without delay, diplomacy or warning," Clinton said.

The president said the report handed in Tuesday by Richard Butler, head of the United Nations Special Commission in charge of finding and destroying Iraqi weapons, was stark and sobering.

Iraq failed to cooperate with the inspectors and placed new restrictions on them, Clinton said. He said Iraqi officials also destroyed records and moved everything, even the furniture, out of suspected sites before inspectors were allowed in.

"Instead of inspectors disarming Saddam, Saddam has disarmed the inspectors," Clinton said.

"In halting our airstrikes in November, I gave Saddam a chance -- not a license. If we turn our backs on his defiance, the credibility of U.S. power as a check against Saddam will be destroyed," the president explained.

Strikes necessary to stunt weapons programs

Clinton said he made the decision to strike Wednesday with the unanimous agreement of his security advisors.

Timing was important, said the president, because without a strong inspection system in place, Iraq could rebuild its chemical, biological and nuclear programs in a matter of months, not years.

"If Saddam can cripple the weapons inspections system and get away with it, he would conclude the international community, led by the United States, has simply lost its will," said Clinton. "He would surmise that he has free rein to rebuild his arsenal of destruction."

Clinton also called Hussein a threat to his people and to the security of the world.

"The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people," Clinton said.

Such a change in Baghdad would take time and effort, Clinton said, adding that his administration would work with Iraqi opposition forces.

"Saddam Hussein and the other enemies of peace may have thought that the serious debate currently before the House of Representatives would distract Americans or weaken our resolve to face him down," he said.

"But once more, the United States has proven that although we are never eager to use force, when we must act in America's vital interests, we will do so."

I would have had more respect for Clinton had he done more after the numerous terrorist attacks against Americans, both foreign and domestic.....(1993) World Trade Center, killing 6 and wounding over a 1,000 other Americans, (1996) Khobar Towers, killing 19 U.S. Air Force servicemen, (2000) U.S.S. Cole, killing 17 sailors, (1998) bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished

Bottom line, Clinton was more concerned with being a popular President than criticized for being a President of military retaliation.
