I think the eyes on topwater rattle lures are for the anglers using them. Topwater plugs fool fish by the action and sound they make. If it was about visuals, tell me what inshore baitfish here are all pink or chartruse with large treble hooks hanging off them. Sometimes I look at a lure like a Superspook and laugh that a fish would even consider chasing it, but they do. Many plugs I use have half the paint and both eyes knocked off, but still work just as good as new.

Does anybody else ever get a strike when the lure is paused and the action and sound has stopped?? Sure the action and sound will attract and yes strikes can be provoked through just plain ole noise and movement but... when that lure is set'n still and it's being evaluated for a meal, I'd like to have as much going for me as I can.

Both interesting points, and on certain days I would believe either.

Add in Warrior's, a notorious gator trout slayer's, comment from Bman's thread that when a fish short stike you should change color and it gets a little confusing. Probably all goes back using a lure have confidence in; one that has been crushed over an over or one that looks like the lure that got crushed initially.
