One question, when measuring a cobia, is it to the fork or the whole tail?

Me and dad put in at the fort at about 10:00.  Headed out east of the lighthouse and set up a drift.   Started slow but ended up catchin about 15 trout to 18".  Most of them were small and we released all of em.  Also picked up a large king and a Cobia (my first). 
   Unfortunately it was only 31", so back in he went 
 .  Left when the tide went slack, hoping to go back out in the morning.  Everything caught early was on shrimp under CT.  Things switched around 2 and they would only hit twitch baits.

My outing Saturday doesn't merit a new topic.  Fished mostly between the lighthouse and the bird rack.  Coupla' keeper mackerel and two keeper trout. Perhaps I shoulda' headed a little east.  Very nice day on the water, though.
Did see an enormous gator covering most the width of the lighthouse road with half a deer in its mouth. Maybe I can find a way to post the pic when film is developed.
