Me and dad put in at the fort at about 10:00. Headed out east of the lighthouse and set up a drift. Started slow but ended up catchin about 15 trout to 18". Most of them were small and we released all of em. Also picked up a large king and a Cobia (my first). Unfortunately it was only 31", so back in he went . Left when the tide went slack, hoping to go back out in the morning. Everything caught early was on shrimp under CT. Things switched around 2 and they would only hit twitch baits.
One question, when measuring a cobia, is it to the fork or the whole tail?
My outing Saturday doesn't merit a new topic. Fished mostly between the lighthouse and the bird rack. Coupla' keeper mackerel and two keeper trout. Perhaps I shoulda' headed a little east. Very nice day on the water, though.
Did see an enormous gator covering most the width of the lighthouse road with half a deer in its mouth. Maybe I can find a way to post the pic when film is developed.
33" To the FORK. I've only caught one Cobia, and it was about 30" to the fork. It was tough throwing him back after a thirty minute fight, and every other line in the boat tangled in a knot ( he probably circled 10 times).
