One question, when measuring a cobia, is it to the fork or the whole tail?

Me and dad put in at the fort at about 10:00. Headed out east of the lighthouse and set up a drift. Started slow but ended up catchin about 15 trout to 18". Most of them were small and we released all of em. Also picked up a large king and a Cobia (my first).
Unfortunately it was only 31", so back in he went
. Left when the tide went slack, hoping to go back out in the morning. Everything caught early was on shrimp under CT. Things switched around 2 and they would only hit twitch baits.

My outing Saturday doesn't merit a new topic. Fished mostly between the lighthouse and the bird rack. Coupla' keeper mackerel and two keeper trout. Perhaps I shoulda' headed a little east. Very nice day on the water, though.
Did see an enormous gator covering most the width of the lighthouse road with half a deer in its mouth. Maybe I can find a way to post the pic when film is developed.
Have a great day!
