You seem to be hung up on "Tea party" - it was a general reference that I was using to refer to things other than fishing or boating. Next time I will say Obama - ooops someone else's keyword I'm sure - my apologies to anyone that is an Obama person - its only a statement that is referencing any topic other than fishing and boating on this forum.

I think this is a great post...most action on this forum in awhile...me likey

It is also great that I can drop a little gulp juice in the mix and get you guys posting more as well :smt005 :smt005

OK, that does it! Now I am officially upset. "Obama" is my keyword for damn near everything wrong with this great country right now!
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

As a site business sponsor, I've reconsidered the locking request and changed my mind. :-D

I'm guessing the powers that be here on the site could give you a good run down of just how many unique visitors the site gets in any given period of time and I'm betting many of them are either not of the political persuasion you and some of the others are or they are but just get a little worn out from all of the canned rhetoric that gets dished out here on the off topic section. Do any of the business sponsors on here hang out in the lobby of their businesses handing out the latest bashing and talking points of what ever their political views are to their clients? Probably not many. How about posting some of the political rhetoric, like the kind put on here, in some of your businesses print ads, brochures, radio/tv, company web site etc...Not going to happen I bet, so why here? I for one consider myself conservative and even though I may agree with much of what is said I tend to repulse some from the continual feeding of it. But that’s just me. And to the point someone made that the "majority" decided that OT was the place to discuss politics ad nauseam...why is that so? Isn't it just preaching to the choir, so to speak? I mean really, can't folks exchange phone numbers and talk about this stuff outside of a semi private fishing forum? Is anyone really going to change his or her minds based on any of the post we see here? If the posts are made to vent frustrations with whatever has currently got you upset in the political arena, again I say, a semi private fishing forum? Really?

It's late here and I have to get up early to go fishing but I'll be back as needed to stir the pot.

I quit posting because Chalk hurt my feelings and JT got mad because CT had to drop his britches on one of JTs holes after his breakfast burrito had a turdbo built into it. I told JT that turd streak on his super spook wasnt any different than slinging a gulp shrimp. Hes been mad ever since :smt009 :-D

Quixote,

Though it may cost us some patients, neither my wife nor I have hidden our identity nor bitten our tongues on politics. Per the earlier tea party talk with Chalk, I posted one thread with our pics taken at a tea party rally -- take a look if you wonder if we're scared to share our views in public -- http://www.bigbendfishing.net/phpBB3/vi ... =5&t=21776. I also spoke in my wife's (Dr. Pam Kennedy) behalf at a subsequent public health care debate as she couldn't attend due to her patient schedule.

I'm NOT a huge republican fan, am a former democrat, and am not registered with either party at the moment. Despite lacking affiliation with a party, I do think the fight against socialism/for our founding principles is important enough I won't bite my tongue in an effort to hold on to patients who can't respect my wife's own democratic right to have political convictions and opinions on how medical care can best be provided to patients. Not worried about the dollars it might cost us as I don't think you can put a price on freedom. This said, I also respect our patients' right to have polar opposite opinions. It's this freedom to have totally different viewpoints that has historically made the US so different from other less open societies. Accordingly we provide the same exact level of care to all patients.

Served 8 years protecting the freedom of our citizens to have different viewpoints from those in power, realizing when I signed the dotted line I might die for it. Wouldn't hesitate a second to sign up for the same commitment today. It's this love of freedom, and freedom of speech in this case, that has many of us not want to see the Off Topic board changed. And again, per an earlier post take the time to look at how varied the posts truly are. Lots more than politics get mixed in this "catch all" category. Sure appears traffic is high and quality fishing reports are still getting posted. Isn't everyone adult enough to choose which posts to click and read, or have we become such a nanny-state we have to have Chalk decide for us? :-D

PS -- Hope you have a quality fishing report to share with us tomorrow.

I have been an activist in several areas for the 42 years I've provided and continue to provide professional care. At times, I'll admit it has been a rocky road but it has not been dull. There were some victories I can point to with great satisfaction. To the contrary, and sadly, so many areas of my concerns I've lived to see take turns for the worse beyond my original fears. I obviously didn't do enough because my grandchildren and great grands will not have some of the freedoms and opportunities I had growing up, obtaining education, etc. Also, anyone providing patient care will be subject to restrictions and
oversight beyond imagination in the future.

As far as "preaching to the choir".....well, I just love to hear the choir say....AMEN!

One thing is for sure, it remains an ELECTIVE PROCEDURE to read or not read any news. opinion, post, or anything else on a computer.
I've used my DELETE key so much on this super mac the letters on the key are worn smooth. :-D
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Chalk repeated what he was told.

I am not interested in discussing politics, being bashed, having my opinion swayed, or being told my thoughts are wrong. Therefore I choose not to participate.

Chalk repeated what he was told. Not why he "thought" the MIA's aren't participating. Not what the content in OFF TOPIC should be. He repeated what he was told. To me, that's cut and dry.
What was I supposed to do today?

I think it's because the "MIA's" aren't catching fish like they used to  :-D Seriously though, the "I'll take my posts and go home" mentality doesn't cut it for me. There are some great anglers on this forum and their info is appreciated. However, if they chose to quit posting for whatever the reason, so be it. I'm still going fishing and will try to post when I can. I only post about 1 out of every 5 trips now. Got nothing to do with what anyone else is saying here. Just busy, that's all.....and a fair portion of that (work) is because of this site
