I too doubt that anyone, including Wevans can cast a Top Dog 130yards with 14# mono. I really would like to see that too.

Maybe it just seems that far :o I am certainly going ta find out one of these days, just what the distance is :-D I know that it's difficult to set the hook when I throw it the full distance "to much line out"

Which model? I think there are 3 in the 230 size. I would like to know too.
I use the sx model. No particular reason why, other than it was the first model I bought and it has served me well  I bought my first one on 5/13/2009 and have never taken it apart and "before my shoulder problem" used it practicaly every weekend

Ugly sticks, and anything else made by Shakespeare for that matter, are pieces of crap. Buy something decent, and you will be glad you did. You get what you pay for in the fishing world.

St. Croix Rods are the way to go...a lil more $ than your talking about spending but well worth your $ (129$ for the premier..blue and black)!! 7ft fast acation...best rod iv ever used and man have i tried a bunch...star "stellar light" rods are great too...alot more $ than your talking about spending. Shakespear "intercoastal" rods are decent for your 50$ purchase but as someone else said...you dang sure do get what ya pay for in the fishing world. Shimano sendonas are a great reel for 59$ but man if ya can come up with the other 80$ for a shimano stradic 3000 or 4000...you definatley wont be dissapointed!!!!!!

Wevans, that's an impressive cast distance. I have never been able to cast the length of a football field (which is 300' long from end zone to end zone). I would like to witness that. I can't do that with a full spool of braided line with a wind-blown assist. Nice!

I think I have figured it out. I take my Stradic, wound with 15# Power Pro braided line (equivalent to 4# mono) , hook up a pinfish then wait for the seagulls. Maybe if I can throw the pinfish into the air, have the seagull nab it, he could carry it 300'. That might take me out to the distance of 300'.

True story . . my boy Brett casted a 1-oz weight 76 yards (no wind) with his 8-foot custom rod made by Matthew's Fishin' Styx. :smt045

I once casted one of those G.I. Joe parachute action figures into a 50 kt tail-wind 340 yards...It would have gone farther but I spooled myself.

Man, WolfeMan... first you go on a lone wolfe "BAN GOOD MORNINGS!" campaign, and now we get crazy talk of casting G.I. Joe parachute action figures into 50kt winds... mind shudders at the prospect of what will be next to come from Dr. WolfeMan Demento's mind.
