Good Chee on the Celestial Crab 10/19/13

Post by Ranaman »

Friend & his wife from my office were slotted to fish with me Sunday for their anniversary, but mid week weather reports kept him from pulling the trigger on baby sitters and arrangement they had to make for 3 children in order to go, so I called the Breambuster, Mr. Chee to see if he was interested in round 3!

Peng said yes I want in with Wife and Calvin and Tommy also wanted to get in the ring since last Saturday was supposed to be his spot not Brad’s (don’t think brad was to unhappy about filling his bean bag) ;) he asked if a friend Joe could join us I said might as well FILL the boat up so that’s what we did.

Got ice, got on the water headed out to fill the live well with pinfish after grabbing a few from the Lanark Village Market boat basin (thanks Carson & Mike). Was patient and let the boys blacken the well with pins and then headed south to the mango #1

Unfortunately we found another boat on the Mangrove number who wasn’t too happy we came off plane near him to say hey sorry we’ll make a change to a different spot, "how’d ya’ll get this number" I asked jokingly? They got rather upset that us GA boys (LOL) didn’t give them “Their” space, well it is a free damn country and I could have just as well have dropped anchor and fished right next to him like some of the FL guys do to me, instead I motored a short ways away to get my bearings on a different spot having planned to start the day there, I was a little befuddled to say the least to see someone on the spot we spent all last weekend on and never did see anyone near us.

As I’m getting plan B together, I remind you no one has as much as touched a rod to fish, these guys come flying at us like were the Debil :smt077 and go on to spout off some more minutiae about the finer courtesies of fishing in the gulf. Ya know if you were paying attention I was running at you for the last 20 minutes you really think it was to steal a number. I got pretty close I guess b/c I was surprised he was actually right on the number, Anyway we moved on and hopefully they could find it in there perfect little hearts to forgive us for intruding on their private space called the Gulf of Mexico! :chill

Why can’t we all just get along LOL

We set up on spot two and proceeded to put a few big Red snapper boat side to be vented and released, cussing their lack of presence the previous week, I think everyone took turns reeling up a decent ARS before the Mango’s and the Red Grouper started chewing and I can’t tell you how happy that made us! And YES some other anglers drifted so close to our marker buoy I thought they were going to use it to anchor on LOL I just asked them nicely if they wanted to tie up didn’t try and RUN them down LOL

Needless to say the Chee family certainly had the good Chi flowing on the boat and everyone had a great time landing some big fish including Mrs. Chee landing a LARGE nurse shark and another large shark later in the day she also managed some nice Grouper and Snaps!! Made another move and had a few more mango come aboard. Then Tommy’s line went screaming away from and around the boat & I finally stuck the nice King and tried to find some where to put him as by this time the box was full!

After waiting out a frontal system that looked as if it was dumping pretty good rain towards the coast we ran through the weaker back half only getting wet for @ ten minutes then got on the other side of the front and it actually got nice, the wind had switched completely and I was now running north into a tight head sea of @ 1-2 ft so after reaching state waters I stopped at a number I had caught snapper on previous years in the fall so I told the guys if you don’t get bit here I’ll wash the boat!

They did all they could to make me nervous even though I could see there were fish on the screen, after a grunt that Brad would have been proud of Tommy finally bows up to a good fish and I’m Like Yea!! We finally get to keep one of those damn ARS!! Except it was a different Red species, but it still counts as a fish and THIS Joe didn’t have boat wash duties :thumbsup

The fireman Tommy & his little Red fire truck!

Tired and being out late due to the storm front we just cleaned a couple and took them to my friends at Sienyard to cook up for us! They did a great job feeding the Chee’s and me and we all went home fat and happy!

Peng and I got after the cleaning duties in the morning.

I would have been pissed at you as well. Just because someone has done it to you doesn't make it right to do it back.

LET ME BE CLEAR!! I DID NOT FISH ANYWHERE NEAR THE OTHER BOAT!!! IT WAS WHERE I FISHED ALL LAST WEEKEND!! SEE MY REPORTS! I STOPPED AFTER I REALIZED THE DUDE WAS TRULY ON THE SAME SPOT RODE BUY TO SAY HI GOOD LUCK, BUT WAS MET WITH NOTHING BUT CONTEMPT! I TOLD HIM LOOK WHY WOULD I RUN 30 MILES TO STEAL A NUMBER I ALREADY HAVE ENJOY THE SPOT AND I MOVED AWAY TO PUNCH IN A PLAN B HE PULLS ANCHOR MOTORS UP COMES SCREAMING AT ME AND PRACTICALLY SETS DOWN ON US FUSSIN AND BITCHEN WE STILL HAVEN'T PULLED ROD ONE OT TO FISH IM SIMPLY TRYING TO GET A RUN PLOTTED TO NEXT NUMBER WITHOUT HAVING TO DO IT WHILE RUNNING, WE'RE A HALF MILE FROM THE ORIGINAL NUMBER. WHATS THE POINT IN FUSSING. YES I MADE A MISTAKE SETTING DOWN NEAR HIM I THOUGHT I MIGHT KNOW HIM I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE AT THIS SPOT IN OVER 7 YEARS WHICH IS TWO MORE THAN NUMBER OF YEARS HE SAID HE'S HAD THAT NUMBER, POINT IS IT DOESEN'T MATTER IF THEY ARE USING YOUR MARKER AS A POINT OF REFERENCE AND FISHING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU LIGHTEN UP!

Right or wrong this happens once every couple trips to me. A boat comes 100 yards to you trolling or slows down to "see if your OK" I just don't want folks to think this is OK to do. You post great reports and I have no doubt you have your own numbers and it sucks to have this done to you but it came across as it is OK to beeline to someone and come off plane next to them.

Liam it is not ok and I apologized repeatedly to the guy. but damn try and run me over because I was running to a spot I had been running to for as long as he could see me! and yes its one of 2500 + so guess I could have turned earlier but I wasn't real sure he was actually "on" it until I got too close. Dang I get it all day long out there on the good bottom it happens. I don't go chasing people down! :-D :-D

Ranaman, with a table stacked deep in good eats as pictured, no reason to worry about missing a single mangrove spot!  salute1

Should have just told them, "Hey, look, fellas.... I'm Ranaman on BBF.net... read my reports and you'll see I don't need to steal anyone's numbers!" ;-) :-)

Awesome report as ALWAYS!

I appreciate Liam's points... but honest to God, have gotten so used to poor manners out there that your story seemed MIGHTY tame, Joe.

While fishing multiple area public reef numbers alone, I've had a second boat run to me and not even look at their bottom finder or throw their own marker, using MY marker to anchor and get within about 10 feet of me.

Inshore, as buddy Sharkman can testify, was stealthily fishing for redfish on a sunken oyster bar over a mile out from land and had a boat run WOT to within yards of us without a word of explanation given, and then watched speechlessly as the boat owner jumped in the water and swam around, walking and kicking the bottom, looking for something he evidently dropped earlier (wasn't scallop season and he didn't put up a flag anyway). We probably spent a half an hour making a stealthy approach to that particular bar only to have the bite turn completely off with the unwelcome guest.

Appreciating that, yes, someone might be taking the numbers for future fishing, someone runs up to me offshore and actually DOESN'T drop lines at my spot I appreciate that there are lots of folks out there who would show far less courtesy.

Uuu.. sorry 'bout that BBG. I dropped my moonshine overboard in that exact spot last time out. I know because it was the end of the snail trail on my GPS. I'm sure you understand now and will forgive me. Hell, if you had stuck around a little longer we could have had a big tug on the jug.

Harmsway, no problem... now that I know it was you and that moonshine was involved, I can much better appreciate the dire situation you were in. :smt045

Understand y'all Tennessee folks take the shine seriously! Heck, I'm late offering up congrats to you, but about a week ago you sure deserved a celebratory glass on that amazing late catch. I was wanting to drink some shine too, but for opposite reasons... badly wanted to drown my sorrows! :smt010

Still, watching the homestate rival Clemson boys take a W.V. style "LET ME HEAR YOU SQUEAL!" whooping again had me ready to hit the jug for some celebration! FSU game definitely eased the pain of the first game of the day! :-)
