Steinhatchee 10/18-19-Fishing with Nestor

Post by doomtrpr_z71 »

Well after not doing any flats fishing since April, the stars aligned and we were able to fit a trip in between me bouncing from Missouri to Georgia to Tennessee and back to Georgia. Of course, Nestor decided to form and try to damper our plans. But, luckily this group is not easily deterred and we had rain-suits for a reason. Heading out Friday we were definitely in the minority heading out instead of in, but the fishing was surprisingly decent, there was some floating grass, but the weather wasn't that bad.

We ended up with around 50 shorts and 2 keepers fishing Friday afternoon in 4-5 foot south of the river. Regardless of the rain we had fun and had a good meal at Fiddlers to finish the night. After talking amongst ourselves we decided to play it by ear for Saturday and see what the morning brought us.

Saturday morning we decided the Lord had blessed us with an opportunity to fish and we couldn't pass it up.

Even though Kyle Skipper rode by us at the ramp starring at us like we were crazy and the news van slowed down to see a bunch of Georgia boys going fishing, we went out anyway. The river was a bit rough in the mouth, but not bad once we were shallow. Turns out the fishing was better during the storm, who knew?

While the day was rainy and windy, it was still very much an enjoyable trip and we ended up with 6 more keepers and a good bit of shorts, the keepers were all from 3ft, any deeper and we picked up shorts instead.

One good thing about fishing during a storm, theres no one doing stupid stuff to hold up the line at the ramp.

Of course, we ended the day with a good meal at whodat and helped a guide get the starter back on his truck, he told us we were hardcore, I think he was right. But it was quite the adventure.

Thanks for sharing, you guys are hardcore! Me and Dad used to fish in weather like that a lot, but since I'm older now I just don't care for it. Looks like it paid off for you, though.

Thanks for the report. That's either dedication or craziness, not sure which. Glad you found some in spite of the weather.

Should have taken advantage of the rain to splash some bleach and soap on your poor old Sea Pro.

What was that pink lure you caught the trout on? Don't believe I've seen one of those yet. :) They must like it.

Its a chasebaits flick prawn, I prefer the DOA to it most of the time but with the floating grass I used it instead since its weedless. Chartreuse worked a little better for keepers.

Yeah it was pretty rough, I forgot to put it under the barn when I was gone since it hadn't been raining and while I was gone it filled up with leaves from the poplar trees and got rained on.

I would say the dedication paid off because we had a blast and honestly I have fished worse in tournaments but that was in my teens.

Just giving you a little good-natured jive. Those who know me will attest I'm anal about the cleanliness of my boats. We've all done crazier things in our youth. Fortunately we're the survivors.

Well you're not wrong, I didn't realize how dingy it was till I looked at the pictures, I guess going fishing had me viewing the boat differently those days :-D .

Maybe I am crazy, but I don't even view this as crazy since frankly I have fished in way worse down here with the sun shining
