First off shore post, other side
Went out of St. Augustine on a charter, Saturday
we knew it would be a little rough in the afternoon.
Booked it many months ago. Had plans to go to the Gulfstream.
The five of us,wife, sister, brother in law, dad and my self left
the inlet at 6am on a 49 foot sportfisherman.
Things seemed to be choppy but doable 3=5 foot seas., about an hour out conditions worsened and we decide to stay closer in to work some artificial and natural bottoms. With the wind and waves it was very hard for the capt to hook
up on the spot, hoped to get a few grouper and snappers, but all we
left with was bait. Moved to another spot several miles a way 5 to 7foot seas made it a long trip. When we got there thing started to look up
Pulled in this nice snapper with much effort, Let me tell you it's alot different pulling in a 20+ snapper from 100 feet with line stretch, than a 40lb grouper in 40 foot. My poor sister, never been sea-sick before, was having a hard time, you
know charters, keep going. Finished the day with many red snapper, a few lanes
be liners and a grouper. had fun with the Bonita (good chum u know)
Well even though the conditions were very tough, the capt put us on some good
fish, but because of break off and cudas, we didn't come back with what we hoped.
Still a day with lots of memories and great stories.
:drink: to smoother seas

The World is indeed a small place, we have eaten at the Conch House quite a few times and my friend Barri Vickers has his boat Dos Amigos moored at Camachee Cove Harbour.
We have left there quite a few times for trips to The Ledge (blue water).
The Inlet can be quite a sobering experience, I don't know how many tide rips meet there, but on some states of the tide its like the Roaring Forties.
RedMann, it would be nice to see a report....any pictures ?

Cran -- I remember your post from last year about your St. Augustine trip. Talk about coincidence, our trip out of Commanche Cove last year was set for the same Saturday as your trip but the boat had engine problems and we had to re-schedule. So, we went 2 weeks later and with much less success that you had. My trip last weekend was not much better in terms of quantity of fish but we did do better in terms of quality. Upon receipt of requested assistance from webmaster Keels, I will post a pic to go with my report.
