(apologies for picture quality  )
Went fishing yesterday....nothing special except that I got to take an 81 year old true Gentleman with his Son and Grand daughter for an outing. :-D Carl Vinson and I have worked together for some time and when his father was able to make a trip from Birmingham to Tallahassee, I agreed to take them fishing. Mr. Vinson (who very quickly informed me that his name was SCOTT! :o ) lived in this area for quite some time, before moving out of State, and it was not unusual at all to see him and his sons (Carl and Allen when they were young), on the water fishing, duck hunting or in a dove field. :D I sure enjoyed the time we spent together and it was special to hear Grandpa Vinson saying... boy this is a great boat.... I haven’t done this in 30 years.... sure brings back memories... you'll never know how much this means to me.

We launched at 7am from the Fort and I ran Scott, Carl, and Taylor (the good look’n one!) out to around the bird rack. The conditions early were pretty windy with the wind being out of the North West. Image
Carl caught a short trout on the very first cast as he was showing Taylor how to work a Cajun Thunder. There was some additional activity but the windy conditions were creating a problem so I decided to run to Patty’s Island to see if we could get into a more sheltered area. Running into the wind I had to go pretty slow to keep from drown’n the crew but we finally managed to get to Patty’s. It was considerably calmer and the fish seem to cooperate. ImageImage
Wind died down about 10 or 10:30...ran back out to the bird rack and then called it a day. Caught 4 nice trout 2 over 18... only caught 4 or 5 shorts (fewest percentage of shorts to keepers in a long time) 2 sail cats (one kept) and one hard head. Had one shark bite on a live pin. Caught everything on CT’s with either space guppy grub or white with a pink fire tail and generally in 4-6 ft of water. Back on the trailer at 1pm. Grandpa Vinson had been advised by his doctor to watch the amount of sun he got and to not get too hot. I had the top up but it was still pretty warm! It’s my understanding that there was fried fish last night at the Vinson residence.

Wow. Sounds like the kind of day that fishing was made for. Although my wife may disagree at times, I don't enjoy much about fishing more than I do taking someone out who really enjoys it and putting them on fish.

Great report!

Just curious? Any connection to Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
That name is quite famous in Georgia.

Thanks, Sir Reel, for a great trip - from all 3 generations of Vinsons. As always a great host.

Ps. RHT Fish - yes, the Vinson Center at UGa is named for Congressman 'Uncle Carl' Vinson, who was in fact my dad's uncle. We are both named for him also.
