Live Oak Island 8/28

Post by Charles »

Wind whipping put of the E this morning in conjunction with a super high, high tide made fishing the rock pile an excercise in futility. Moved so I could fish protected from the wind. Nothing, one ladyfish. Did casting practice for a couple hours, then gave it up and went home for lunch.

Back down to the island in the afternoon to take care of a few things before it floods in the morning, maybe tonight, then back to the important stuff thinking maybe I could pick up something on the falling tide. A few times I couldn't keep the dad-blamed seagulls off my speckled trout colored Skitter Walk. To them it must look exactly like a little trout because they were mobbing it when they were around. Switched to a bright red/yellow TopDog Jr. thinking, "surely seagulls can't be that stupid." They are.

There were a lot more sea birds of all stripes around this afternoon than I usually see, including some kind of ocean going kite. A couple of them hanging around the mouth of Walker Creek for a while. Lots of the usual stuff, seagulls, sandpipers, terns, wood ibis, etc.

Flipper was up in Walker Creek busting the mullet.

Anybody want to go in the morning? ;-)

Thinking about fishing in a storm reminds me.

During the "Storm of the Century", back in '93, my dad and younger brother were sitting around in the cottage at Live Oak Island.

Dad, "So what do you want to do?"

Younger Brother, with a straight face, "Charles would go fishing in this."
