Why do you think he would say that? What do you think the detriment would be?
SKEG GUARD - ROCK GUARD

Rocket, my mechanic told me the same thing. His reasoning was if you hit something with the rock guard in place it may tear the entire foot off, while without the rockguard it might only break the skeg.
He told me this, but I still put arock guard on my outboard. My thinking is if I hit something going slow the rock guard will do its job. If I hit something going fast I'm screwed anyway.

GULP! free since 1970.
I've got one on my 25 Yammie, and have always put them on my previous boats. Pete at Sunshine was who told me not to do it.
I was thinking it had to do with the size of the motor. Never had/seen one on a 200hp.
Maybe your right BD, Iguess he thinks I plan on running wide open down the middle of the Aucilla!
