Why Wavel Porter is the Man...

Post by rocket »

Last Wednesday I met a fellow interested in the G3 at Jerry's. We rode down to the fort, launched and ran almost to the lighthouse and back. He loved the boat, but had an issue with the idle being a little rough. I had never noticed it before, and assured him it was minor and could be fixed.
He decided he wanted to purchase the boat, so I told him we would carry it to Wavel and let him have a look see.
We arrive, and the gate is closed. Yard is FULL of boats. No one around except for a fellow replacing a windshield, and he told me they were not excepting any more boats. Wavel was at lunch, but arrived shortly after us.
I told him I was sorry, that I didn't know he was taking appointments for service, however I had a sale riding on the boat and explained the situation to him.
Without hesitation, he jumped on it, diagnosed it, and re-calibrated my carbs.
I thanked him, and asked him how much, and he told me to bring him the Dura-Craft for a rockgaurd and we'd call it even. I still slid him a $20 and told him to buy a case of beer after work.
Well even after we shook hands, and I brought the G3 back to the house so the guy could pick it up, he backed out. Seems he got home and got a :smt014 from the wife. He left me a message on my phone backing out of the deal.
Moral of the story: Porter's Marine rocks! You don't find service like that anymore!
FYI...I dropped the Dura-Craft off this morning for a little "Wavel Insurance"

Wavel is a good guy......he resurrected my '75 Merc 850 and I've never had a problem since....runs like a new one

He's never had a boat of mine for more than a week and usually has it back before the promised date!

He's treated me right through thick and thin. When I had cash and when I didn't. He's a good mechanic and knows Evinrude and Yammies like the back of his hand.
