Pelican Hunting--Aucilla

Post by Fisherman989 »

Went to Aucilla on Tuesday. Tide was low right before we arrived....but we managed to launch. Uneventful trip down the river....but foggy..foggy. Went to one of my favorite places...struck out..except for one short. Went on down the river to the entrance...this is where the pelicans hang out. Nothing...fish or foul.
Went on out on the flats to where they have been tearing em up. Not a bite on anything we offered.
Came back west of the river where we scored last week. Nothing.
Little did I realize this was the pattern for the entire day. My partner got one bite all day...and got a 19 redfish. I did better. I got 2 bites...and got 1 short and 1 keeper flounder.
Seems to be the luck....after a good trip...like last Wednesday....a bust next trip.
Pelicans left me alone this time. I did see some...but they were fishing schools of mullet...and doing better than me. They got a few right in front of me. Fog lifted about noon. :D Lots of people out for a Tuesday.

The inshore fishing has been hit and miss all year. Good effort on your part.
What was I supposed to do today?

Where are the fish? Hard to figure it out! Based on years past
one would think fish would be stacked at mouth of Aucilla.

Hoping to get up that way from Ankyfaenna later this week.
Are there any restrictions on having a 12 ga. for "pelican
protection"?????

Trust everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend! :-D
It may be that my sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I have never been successful fishing in the fog.
In fact, nowadays I won't fish on a foggy day, because of past experiences.

Could this have been a factor in your poor day ?

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon ?

Cranfield,
I have noticed for years now when it's foggy out, no fish of any kind seems to bite. Glad to hear someone else has noticed it.
