Re: 38lb Redfish on a fly AND in a Kayak

I saw this a couple of months ago on Vs. - the guy lucked out getting that fish on his last day. I was keenly interested in it because I paddle an Ultimate 12 as well. Hopefully one day I'll get to hook into a red that size in my kayak. I'm taking a charter with this guy next January - won't be out ...

Re: Rigging...

I used to use the small 2 lb folding anchor, and ended up in enough situations with heavy winds or current that now I just carry a ridiculous 5 lb anchor. It's way oversized most of the time, but it will hold you in any gale or raging current when you need it to.

Re: Rock Garden

I did the Lighthouse pools/ portage over the dike into Stoney Bayou/ paddle back west to Lighthouse from the rock garden paddle one time. Easiest way is just to put in at the lighthouse and paddle east. If you put in at the pools and paddle down through Stoney Bayou, don't do it at low tide. It''s a...

Re: Rigging...

I didn't have a trolley on my first kayak, I rigged an anchor in the front and one in the back so I could position myself with or against the wind/ current. On the Native I got last summer I went with the trolley, and I have to say, I like it. It's really nice to be able to orient yourself in whiche...

Re: Rigging...

I always carry my cell phone in a dry bag, and sometimes I take a gps if I'm going somewhere new, or just want to keep track of mileage. I think Lit is referring to the guys that have depth finders, livewells, outriggers, etc etc. At some point you might as well just go buy a boat.

Re: Rigging...

Rod holders, anchor and trolley, and paddle holder are all I've found to be truly useful. I have been thinking about a way to mount my camera towards the bow to make fish pictures easier. Probably something like Barhopr uses on his boat is all that's necessary. One of these would be nice....http://w...

SGI - Lanark 4.19-4.20 Late Report

Fished the east end of SGI last Saturday. Weather was horrible in the a.m. Rain, clouds, wind, the whole package. Cleared up after the front moved through, but it was still windy. Got one 26" red, one pompano, and a plethora of ladyfish on spin with a nylure. Fished the rising tide at Lanark Su...

Nice looking fly Barhopr. You must have rubbed some of that Comcast highspeed on your hands before you started filming. :D

Re: Rethinking St. Teresa without a boat....

I used to wade there back in the mid 90's. We'd wade way out to almost armpit level, where you could just start to feel some rocky bottom off the beach. A couple of years after that I saw a guy post a 6 ft lemon shark he caught in the same location. Needless to say, I haven't done any armpit wading ...

Re: Freshwater shore/dock casting?

When I started out I spent some time casting at Lake Piney Z. You can park at the parking lot and then walk around the right side of the lake. There are a few dikes (that don't have trees on them) that protrude out into the lake about 50 yards or so that you can cast from. Never caught any bass ther...
