CT with red jig, pearl/red tail grub. The leader length seem to need about 3 feet this spring. Topwater, nothing on trout. I keep tossing it though.

I much appreciate the advice and, I must say, confirmation of my dilemma. Everything posted here is consistent with my search so far. Capt Ron’s evidence is pretty convincing. Tom’s too. My problem is that I may be as picky as Ken say’s he is. Ken, the Capricorn interested me. I am concerned t...

Spinning Reel Recommendations?

I'm old school with metal Penns but some of the new bells and whistles sound pretty good. I'm trying to stay near $100. I'd appreciate any opinions on Okuma spinning reels -particularly the Epixor, Metaloid, or the Inspira. Also, anybody using the new Stradic yet? It sounds like a real step up from ...

I agree with Tom, straight for Patty's Island and fish the channel on the west side of it. Also, there is some good limestone/bar on the southwest corner of the island to target redfish.

I've been chasing fish in that Bay a lot the last 5 years and it can be a real puzzle. The Spanish are a regular where you got em'. Bull reds have been running the sea wall for the last month. I work the Bay area with my kayak and I got drug around by a redfish for about 45 minutes (40"). The t...

We were using the chug bug but I think these fish would have hit Triscuit crackers.

Dog Island Reef 4/24

Big Spanish on topwater. We didn't measure but these were consistently the biggest I've ever seen around in big numbers -like an army of undersized Kings. Clear water with 8-10 big fast fish tearing to get a topwater is about as fun as it gets. Our best luck was on the bay side edge of the reef. Als...

Tom, I like the silver gotcha for casting & trolling but the choice at the above mentioned site is a Clarke Spoon. Why that one? Well you know that story... This site has been a consistent producer for big spanish on that spoon into summer after the spring run (last 3-4 years).

East End

Slow Thursday (4/16). I say that with high expectations. Pompano are there, we brought home 5 but worked hard for them. Spanish are a can't miss at Dog Island Reef. Also, the southeast edge off of Dog Island has a ledge that consistantly produces big spanish. Troll speed seems critical. ~300 yards o...

Distinguishing Permit from Pompano was, for me initially, more based on a familiarity with Pompano and knowing that this fish looked different. Inverts is more my trade and my knowledge of fish is mostly from years of fishing. The Permit looked thicker above the eye. I've also seen plenty of photos ...

3 lb Permit

True story. I'm new to the board but since I check in often to steal all the info I can I decided I needed to contribute. The logical response to the Permit line is BS! -but it's true. We caught it in a trawl in the channel out of the FSU Marine Lab. I teach there and we were working the trawl west ...
