Panama City 6-13 to 6-17 ( A little Late)

I'm very late posting this, but coming back to work after a week off is always hellish. :smt013 I fished P.C. Beach for the first time ever on vacation this year. I went to the local bait shop, Half Hitch Tackle, and got license, bait, and advice. This was the week of tropical storm Alberto, so I to...

What do you consider safe ?

After reading the Dog ISland reef post below, you Old-timers are worrying me  Would you consider it safe for a 17' c.c. with a 90 h.p. to go out to the artificial reefs around Keaton ? I've only done it once, on a beatiful cluodless day, and it was nothing. The boat will make about 33 m.p.h. on...

33" To the FORK. I've only caught one Cobia, and it was about 30" to the fork. It was tough throwing him back after a thirty minute fight, and every other line in the boat tangled in a knot ( he probably circled 10 times).
Nice report.

A local guy at Keaton told me I should go up to Yates creek last weekend and I didn't do it. I thought my "hotspots" from last year would still work. They didn't. Wish I had tried now.

There was a tourney sat. 13. I have no idea about the results. Luckily we didn't take out until sunday a.m. That line at the lift was unreal.

Glad i'm not the only one who wasn't catching any fish. I caught a 23" spec on my second cast & thought "this is gonna be a great day". I didn't catch another trout till nearly dark. I did manage two legal Spanish on # 50 leaders. I didn't hear about anchoring on the spot till aft...

Yes, the cobia was in 4' of water when hooked. I had no idea that you could catch cobia in water that shallow. I've only been fishing the flats for a couple of years, so that was a first. I hope it happens again ! :D

Keaton Beach 4-4 & 4-5

Headed out of the marina around 9:00 a.m fri. to a fairly strong wind of about 8 to 10 knots. Fished the deeper water with little to no sucess. We came in to about 3' to 4' and started catching a few, but the bite was very slow. Ended up with 6 keeper trout and some major sunburn  Saturday mor...

I'm definently not an expert, but I had a lot of luck using a 1/4 oz. jig head with 5' of leader under a Cajun Thunder. I caught more fish with this set-up than anything else I tried.

20 miles in a bass boat ! :o I definently don't have the experience or knowledge of the sea to try that yet. Maybe in a few more years, I have become hooked (no pun intended) very fast on saltwater fishing. Thanks for the advice, maybe next time i'll be ready for the Macks !

Sounds like a great day all around, today was my first report on here also. I was probably one of those boats out in deeper water. We just seemed to have better luck in 6' to 7' water with the Cajun Thunders.

Sir Reel

We went out about 9.5 miles from Keaton. The water was between 25' &
30'. Started spotting Mackerel about 5 miles out. I forgot to mention that I tried trolling a Manns stretch 25 with no luck either.

Keaton Beach 3-14-03 & 3-15-03

What a couple of great days on the water. We almost cancelled our trip thursday due to the weather forecast for rain fri. & sat. We decided to go anyway and i'm sure glad we did. Not a drop of rain either day. Friday we left the marina around 9:30 with overcast skies and temps in the low 60's. T...
