St. Marks back water red fish
Decided to take a chance to beat the showers on Fri. Launched at the lighthouse about 7:00 am and went to the back of Big Bay. Water was 86 degrees and the tide going out (fast). Fished around the grass lines to see if red was home. First cast, plastic electric chicken jig under a cork and bam; fish...

I'm guessing that this was not posted on the Chamber of Commerce's web site. Thanks for sharing; I think.

Re: Popping cork
Or, you could tie on about 3' of leader under the cork, put on a 1/8 oz.bullet weight, tie on you 1.0 circle hook, bite the tail off the shrimp and hook the shrimp in the tail from bottom to top of body (easier to cast and they don't come off as easy). Just another option.

Re: Too hot to catch em
Thanks Reb. I almost ventured out to the bird rack but it was getting hot by then. Should have listened to the quarterback "go deep."

Too hot to catch em
Had a rare opportunity to take Son-in-law and grandson to the flats. They wanted to feel the tug of a red fish on the line. Expected a scalloping crowd but not too many. Tried the usual spots in the back of Big Bay and Horns Creek, grass lines and rocky shores, but couldn't buy a bite. Finally, the ...

Re: Thoughts on knots
Uni to uni is great, but the swivel connection is easier and you get less twists when you use live bait. Just thinking?

Bottom's Road 5/27
Decided we had to try around Piney Island. Put in at Bottom's Rd and ran to the redfish spots past the old seine yard and not too long caught a puppy drum; game on. Ooops, not so fast. Only red we saw. But it was fun. Went outside Piney and drifted. Water sorta clear in places and not so clear in ot...

WOW, what a fun time with a paddle. Good for you to see the excitement, and short hook-up on a tarpon.

Re: Failed NOAA Report Leads to Tripletail Action
Thanks for the report. Never targeted tripletails at St. Marks. But, you can bet I'll have a cork rig ready for the next crab trap I see.

St. Marks; that's why we call it fishing
Took the Pa-in-law out to see if we could beat the rain yesterday and take advantage of the approaching low. Got drizzled on, but not too bad. Fished the incoming and first of the out going tide. Tried the drift east of lighthouse in 4 to 6 feet of water. Semi-clear water with an east wind and moder...
