Re: Where are the trout biting? (St. Marks)

Since late March I've been fishing a lot on the flats out of St. Mark's, East of the lighthouse, and the trout bite has been great in my opinion. Cajun Thunder, 22 inch 30# fluoro leader, 1/16 oz. yellow head jig with a 3 inch white Gulp shrimp. 3 to 5 feet of water has been good, even as shallow as...

Flounder gigging tips?

Other than being in shallow water on a calm night with a Q-Beam or other bright lights, anyone care to share some tips on how to go about trying this? I'm wanting to do it out of the St. Marks area. Is there a preferable tide, or type of bottom, or technique? Would sandy bottom areas around various ...

Re: Redfish bag limit change May 1st

If you haven't been regularly getting big trout on the flats yet this year, you're not fishing in the right place! I've never seen it this good this early.

Re: St. Mark 25 March 16

I went too on the 25th, late in the day, the wind dropped to maybe 5mph, it was overcast, and the trout bite east of the Lighthouse was INSANE. By the time I got done fooling around with my stone crab traps I decided to throw a Gulp jig/popper and BAM BAM BAM one after the other I got 5 big keeper t...

Re: Saturday Fishing

Yeah me & the boys got 6 keepers (trout) E of the St. Marks LH. WINDY. Rough, rocking, spray, pounding. But the trout made it a little easier to take.

Can't wait for calm days.

Were you out east of Lighthouse?

I may have seen you. I took the two boys out in the 15' jonboat (OD green with "face" painted on side of bow) yesterday afternoon to check my 5 stone crab traps (got one claw, which makes a grand total of 2 for the season ...) and to fish a little. Man it was windy! Weather report said it ...

Re: Short Reds

I think this is a very complex issue. I agree with the poster above that if going from a one fish limit to a two fish limit for sport fishermen is dramatically impacting the redfish populations, then there is a much bigger problem. Some factors that in my mind would dramatically affect numbers of an...

Re: How many of you fish out of a Jon boat for inshore?

I have an old Lowe 15' riveted aluminum semi-pointed (somewhat of a "V" at the front couple of feet) jonboat with a 2008 Yami 2-stroke that I've used in the gulf out of St. Marks for the past 2 years. Often it's just me, sometimes me & 1 other adult, and a few times with the wife &...

What, if anything, is biting in the St. Marks river?

I'm talking the stretch of river anywhere between the fort to just before the lighthouse. Thinking of maybe going Saturday morning. Tide at the river entrance predicted to be low at 3:55 am and hi at 10:16 am then low at 3:47 pm. At the predicted 20 knots, the wind & resulting waves will likely ...

Re: In case anyone was wondering ...

I got out there way too late in the day. I fished a little right off the lighthouse, in the mouth and "throat" area of Big Cove, and a little bit on the flats south off the lighthouse in about 3-4 feet, but it was really getting late by then.

In case anyone was wondering ...

I have singlehandedly established that there are lots of pinfish and tiny trout around St. Marks. Oh and some pufferfish too. The thing that made it all OK was that there was almost NO WIND, which has not been the case for like three months it seems, and it was also warm. I may not get back out ther...

Re: St. Marks Lighthouse Reports Sep. 19 & 25th

Thanks much for the offer to repair my reel Bass Pro Shop. I can't complain too much really given the good price and the fact that I've used it quite a bit. It only happens intermittently. Also, after doing some research, it seems that this can happen with these series of reels if grease gets into t...
