Alligator Point 7-11 & 7-14-04
I got to go out on one of my scouting trips on Sunday and brought a trio of NFC football players, Danny, Kalen, and Marcus, along to the hard work of pulling grouper off the bottom:) We left the dock around 6:15 shooting for a half day. Loaded up with live pinfish on D. I. Reef and headed out to che...

Alligator Point 6/12/04
I had the pleasure of taking a fine fisherman, Steve, and a couple of his buddies, Randy and Billy, down from his hometown in Maryland out for a day of grouper fishing on Saturday. After dropping the float plan off at the marina, it was off to D. I. Reef to load up on some live bait for the trip. Wi...

Chipola, Sounds like you had the same luck on Wed. that I had on Thur. What is up with the sharks?? Glad to hear that you caught them on Thur. How far offshore is 100ft out of Indian Pass? I've never been over that way. Thursday, we ended up 42 miles out from Alligator Point in 110ft. The water was ...

Alligator Point 5/6/04
I had the pleasure of taking a fine fisherman from San Diego, CA out on the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday. Noel Huelsenbeck came to Tallahassee to attend a friends wedding and got my number from this great web site to arrange a little fishing while he was here. A couple of my friends rounded out the cr...

100ft overnighter!
Sea Fox & Geno, I've got to get my radar looked at and have the running gear scraped on Cuda"B" and I'll be ready and waiting for the weather to get right. I hope to have those items taken care of in the next 2 weeks. Lets look at the second weekend of May and see if we get our schedul...

Goliath Grouper
Geno, Yea, in today's oh so politically correct world, they are no longer called Jewfish. Either way, the divers I know report that there are several of them, ranging from 50lbs to 300lbs on all of the OAR Reefs. I've never gotten one to the boat but I have hooked several. Capt. Jay

trolling
Chalk, You are right. I have in the past done that very same thing. My experience has been that the grouper will hit them when going with the current flow and not when going against it, or vice-versa. I'll have to admit, I didn't give trolling too much of a chance especially early because I had a hu...

Alligator Point 4/6/04
Late report from a midweek trip  Left the dock around 7 and didn't bother stopping at D. I. Reef as the water temp was still reading 64 degrees which means few if any pinfish. We did stop at the bouy and put about a dozen spot-tails in the livewell, in case we got the chance to go for some AJ'...

AJ's
Frank, Are you catching those AJ's over natural bottom or wreck fishing? I've only found one spot that wasn't a marked wreck that produced AJ's and it might be a wreck, I don't dive so I don't know for sure. Sounds like you had a great two day trip. I suppose when I head SE 25 to 30 miles, I'm proba...

regs!
Tom, I've always thought that it is crazy to have separate regs for the same species just because you've caught the fish in "different water". The different start dates for Red Snapper season for State and Federal waters is crazy, especially for our area. I guess this little known rule on ...
