Re: Sunday afternoon non-delight

You did a good service for the broken down boat, the good karma will come back to you one day. Reminds me maybe 12 years back I smashed my lower unit into a rock near Grey Mare and a fellow in a bass boat towed me all the way to the Light House Ramp. He was quiet, the only thing he said was "Th...

Re: Boating after dark in the Keys

Thanks Wevans. I have been preoccupied lately. First my knees went bad which makes it hard to get out on the boat, then under the new Governor I lost my job and as the topper my sister-in-law moved in with us. But no complaints, life is good.

Re: Tucker Lake/Chaires Creek

I've tried to get up to Tucker's Lake a couple of times by water but there was no way too shallow. There is an Incredible Indian Mound Island there - I would love to see it. Before the state park I drove in with a friend, the deer flies were thick thick thick.

Re: SGI Boat Ramps and Fishing

My favorite on the island is the main ramp at the State Park and then fishing all the way to East Pass. I've used the dirt ramp at the causeway many times, park up the hill away from the water if a high tide is coming and at low tide it can be hard to get through the shallows where the sand spit sti...

Dog Island

When boating St. George Sound I never paid much attention to Dog Island I guess because of a mental block - maybe 30 years ago I went out on a party boat from Carrabelle with some buddies, we started with the beer at dawn. Well when we hit big rollers just past the island I turned a shade of green, ...

Casting for Bait Apalachicola Bay (Photos Aplenty)

I prefer live bait and love to cast net. Pin fish are the ideal but on Apalachicola Bay I've had more success scoring finger mullet which are good. Sometimes though I've had to get by with quick-to-die mud minnows and the like although luckily shut-outs have been rare. Continuing my trip down memory...

Boating the Distributaries

Tin Can inspired me to think about the Apalachicola River distributaries, good luck to him this weekend. Capt. Ron, you've got a great backyard! I've boated this area only three times so my knowledge is wafer thin. Nonetheless locked in my mind is the pungent smell of the wet forest, odd screeching ...

Lake Wimico Trip (Photo Intensive)

On a winter day I launched up the river at a Franklin County ramp at the end of Bluff Road and boated to Lake Wimico then back to Apalachicola and return. It was a glorious experience gliding across the smooth waters surrounded by wilderness swamp forest. Wimico Trip.jpg The ramp is excellent: good ...

Apalachicola Bay Area Boating

Well its winter, I have two bad knees and I find myself sitting around a lot looking at the computer so I started playing with Google Earth and my GPS and managed to map many of my boating trips over the past couple of years. I have been very fortunate to have a generous friend who (until recently) ...
