Dog Island Shoal 6-8-10
Gorgeous day today. First time out in many months with Captain Doc. Mainly drift fishing using live pinfish and some arties. Stopped about half way out of Lanark to stock up on live pinfish, and then began the search for Spanish, shark, and whatever else might be so inclined. Most fun was with 4 ...

Latest, greatest UW cameras for yaking
As some of you know, I have been a big fan of carrying a reliable point and shoot UW (underwater) camera when yaking. I am especially a fan of these cameras if they can focus down to 1 cm or so for getting great close-ups of DIY parts or fixes, or marine critters of all kinds and sizes. Even though ...

Re: Modifying a Utility Trailer for Kayaks?
Litt,
The problem with going the el cheapo route is that those utility trailers are painted steel and it does not take much to rust them out around salt water. The time and money you spend in modifying a utility trailer for hauling yaks might be better spent getting an aluminum trailer built for ...

A simple solution for securing plugs and hooks when underway
As most anyone who fishes knows, treble hooks, although very useful on your plugs, are also one of the major sources of accidental injury when fishing. I have tried various methods of securing my topwater (and other) plugs to avoid entanglement when underway, either in my truck, on the kayak, or in ...

Hey Charlie,
Great tale! No--don't sell the boat. Buy a couple of kayaks to use inshore! That red would have given you one heck of a sleigh ride!!
Best,
Dick

Hey TT,
I like 7 foot rods, but find that in a short yak (9.5 ft Hobie Sport), 6.5 works better.

Hey mj,mjsigns wrote: And all this time I thought it was called Turkey Point Shoals....
Actually, my charts call it the Dog Island Reef also. The Turkey Point Shoals are about 3 miles due north from where we were. We were drift fishing in about 3-4 feet of water most of the time.

Spanish on the Dog Island Shoal 4-21-08
Beautiful day on Monday with not much wind. Headed out to the Dog Island Shoal from Lanark after a quick stop to catch a supply of pinfish on the grass beds. For a weekday, there were a fair number (7) of boats out and about. Fished for Spanish with Gotchas and ChugBugs, plus an assortment of other ...

Re: Capt Mike's Spoons?
They used to have them at the Thomasville Road W-M, but ran out. I asked the manager there if he could re-stock them and they had them back within a week. West Marine on W. Tenn. also carries them in Tally.

Re: New Hobie Revolution
Hey TT,
Nice craft! If I was in the market for another yak, that is the one I would go with. Here are some pics that I took of our very first FCKA fishing tournament that were inconveniently deleted from the FCKA Web site. The first one below shows Brad of Sunjammers with his red Revo (hey--mebbe ...
